Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Tom Kern, age 61, who died Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery, Cold Spring, MN.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 at Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, and from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday morning at Wenner Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Tom was born in St. Cloud to Arnold A. Kern and Anna (Reith) Kern. He married Mary Schmitt on June 29, 1974 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Cold Spring, MN. Tom owned and operated Smitty's Service since 1975. His hobbies included cooking, gardening, camping, motorcycling, and playing cards. Tom loved his grand kids, and making people smile.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary; children, Jody (Shauna), Jesse (Erin), Josh (Holly); grandchildren, Mitchel, Dakota, Kelly, Kole, Emilee, Averie, Charlie, Isaak, Dane, and Brenden; brothers, Ken (Margret), Al (Doreen), Richard "Butch" (Kay) ; sister, Shirley (Darrel); sisters- in-law, Eileen (tJim) , Eileen( tJerry), and Lynn (tDave).
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jackie; infant sister, Rosemary.

Tom was a wonderful and amazing guy. My family will miss him so much. There is a hole in my heart where he should be. Prayers to you Mary and Josh, I am speechless, and bawling like a baby.

Dear Shirley, and family, My deepest sympathy to you at this time. I remember Tom from when Arnold employed me to take care of Anne (Tom's mom) after her 1st stroke, and my grandma Plonie Kaufman told Arnie to hire me..He lived in the basement of the house in Watkins and helped Kenny on the farm, and he was so nice to me would talk to me all the time.. He was great help with his mom and dad, I know Ann and Arnie have greeted him in Heaven,may he Rest in Peace. A super person...I am so glad I knew when I was younger.

Mary, Josh and Family, A Wonderful, Giving and Kind Hearted man is how I will always remember Tom. He was the BEST! Calling the shop and hearing Tom answer the phone always made me smile.. May God bring you Peace and Comfort....

Mary, Josh and family, Shane and I have many fond memories of Tom. He was a wonderful man, always willing to lend a hand and help out any way that he could. He will be missed by many.

So sorry for the loss of your brother. I remember Tom well from all the times I stayed at your house. I can still her your dad saying his name early in the A.M. for chores. He was a very nice person. My thoughts and prayers to all of the family.
