Verina Sakry Obituary
Waite Park - Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Verina C. Sakry, 95, of Waite Park will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waite Park. Verina passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Reverend Timothy Gapinski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery, Waite Park.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Verina was born on October 1, 1922 in Rockville, Minnesota to the late Casper and Gertrude (Schwieters) Eickhoff. She graduated from Cathedral High School, attended St. Cloud State University and graduated from the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing. She married Cyril J. Sakry on August 22, 1953 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rockville. Verina was employed as a Registered Nurse for many years at the VA Medical Center and the St. Cloud Hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish and Christian Women and the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing Alumni.
She enjoyed trips to the casino with family and friends, playing cards and sewing.
Verina is survived by her children, Joan (Harold "Jr.") Schneider of St. Cloud, Jim Sakry of Waite Park; grandchildren, Joseph and Jennifer Schneider both of Brooklyn Park; and sister, Romona Praught of Brainerd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cy in 2003; son, John Sakry in 1981; brothers, Fabian, Roman and Leander Eickhoff; and sisters, Alvina Eickhoff, Eleanore Rengel and Veronica Sauer.

I am so sorry for your loss. Verina was like no other resident at Assumption nursing home. I looked forward to checking in with her every morning. She was the life of every activity! She was always wanting to share her goodies with all of us at our coffee social and had such a big heart. I'll miss that smile and twinkle in her eye; what a wonderful,adventurous life she must have led. It's been hard adjusting to my workdays without her, but in the meantime, I will cherish all of the wonderful,silly conversations we had together. Verina was surely a special gift to all of us at Assumption and I said already missed greatly. Blessings to all of you and may you keep Verina's spirit alive in your hearts.
