Anthony DiNardo Obituary

BEDFORD - Anthony DiNardo passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017, in Bedford, N.H. "Tony" was born on January 20, 1924 in Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, Italy to Rocco and Maria DiNardo. He immigrated to America when he was five years old and settled initially in Pittsburgh, Pa., with his family. He became a U.S. citizen in 1929.

Tony loved America and proudly served in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. He remained in the Air Force Reserves for many years retiring with the rank of Major. His accomplishments throughout his life were countless and inspiring.

After the war, Tony earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He subsequently earned a law degree from Duquesne University Law School. He chose to apply his education in business and relocated his family to Boston, Mass., where he was employed by the Stop & Shop Companies. After an accomplished business career of 27 years, he retired from his position as Senior Vice President.

Tony initiated his retirement years in York Harbor, Maine and then settled in Bedford, N.H., for many years. He pursued his many interests and hobbies, most notably photography and writing. His cherished gallery of photographs reflects his extensive travel during and after his business career. He published his first novel, "Rogue Pawn" in 1998 followed by his memoirs, "Across the Tracks" in 2014 at the age of ninety.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elly, in 2010. He is survived by his daughters, Jan McCarron (Joe) of Bedford, N.H., Donna Boyt of Rye, N.H., and Nan MacKenzie of Duxbury, Mass.; and his son, Mark DiNardo (Diane) of Annapolis, Md. He also leaves his nine grandchildren, Kristin Boyt, Heather Romano, David McCarron, Michael McCarron, Kait MacKenzie, Steve MacKenzie, Tori MacKenzie, Lauren Dorris, and Rachele Layne. Tony was blessed with eight great-grandchildren as well, Mia, Bryce, Ellie, Jack, Ben, Max, Aaron, and Natalie.

The family would like to thank the numerous caregivers who were so kind and compassionate to Tony. We will miss Tony's ever present strength, wisdom, counsel, wit and enduring positive attitude. He was loved by all and leaves a lasting influence on the so many lives he touched.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be private. Please consider a donation to a charitable veteran's organization in his honor. Tony will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum in Manchester, N.H., together with his loving wife Elly. The DiNardo family was a big part of my life growing up on Elaine Court in Scituate, MA. Always remember playing tennis with Tony and my Dad in North Scituate. Also, Janice, our "baby sitter"! My thoughts are with you all!

I was just reminiscing about Tony a few days ago when someone asked me about the wonderful photograph of the Bridge of Sighs on my wall. I recalled how after not seeing him for many years I spotted him sitting on a bench at the mall. I wondered if he would remember me, walked over, he looked at me and with a twinkle in his eye he said, "Mikie?". We had a good laugh. My office is graced with some of his fantastic photographs which he would bring by now and then. I was blessed to know such a great man! He indeed was truly inspirational! My most sincere condolences to his family. - Michael Marshall, DMD

It was a wonderful privilege to have know Tony so well over a period of many years. I will always treasure memories of conversations during which he took more interest in me than maybe I did in him. I will also value a wonderful photograph that he took of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice and the signed copy of "Rogue Pawn." Kindness was a given in any interaction with Tony. I know that he was never the same after losing Elly, but now they are together. Rest in Peace, Tony!
