Barbara Scott Obituary

WELLS, Maine - Barbara Joyce Scott, 74, of Wells, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021after a sudden illness. Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on February 7, 1946; daughter of Carlos and Florence (Grigg) Gould.

She worked for many years as a database administrator for SUBMEPP, at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Many of her coworkers became lifelong friends who continued to gather regularly after her retirement in 2006.

Joyce married Russell Scott, Jr. in June of 1983, in Berwick, Maine. They had a dream of having an island home on Lake Winnipesaukee, and worked very hard over several years to build their home on Rattlesnake Island. After retirement, they made the island their primary home for 10 months of the year, where they made many good friends.

Joyce was known for her kindness, generosity, creativity and easy sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, including her two beloved cats. An avid nature lover, she paid particular attentions to making sure the local birds were well fed.

She is predeceased by her husband Russel M. Scott Jr., her sons Jeffrey T. Therrien and Michael Therrien.

She is survived by her brother, John Gould and wife Ellen of Connecticut; sister Carol Sanders of Vermont; stepdaughter Susan Monaghan and spouse Brigit Ordway; stepson Robert Scott and wife Lesley; grandsons Matthew Therrien and wife Adrianne, Nicholas Therrien, Jeffrey Monaghan and wife Deven; granddaughters Noelle Linnemeyer, Meg Scott and Michelle Scott; and great-granddaughters Lyla, Lydia and Aubrey.

SERVICES: Services will be held in the summer. Details will be shared at that time.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to: Four Legged Freedom Rescue, P.O. Box 506, Kennebunk, ME 04043. This organization was instrumental in helping find Joyce's cats a home. Please go to www.taskerfh.com to sign the online guestbook.

My husband and I worked for years with "BJ" at SUBMEPP. She was great - always friendly and helpful. A real treat if we had to call her with our computer problems, never fussed and always fixed our issues. BJ you were wonderful to know. We are very sorry to hear of your passing.
