Carl Schultze Obituary

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Carl R. Schultze died Thursday, May 13, 2010, after suffering a series of upper respiratory infections.

He was born March 28, 1936, in Portsmouth, N.H., to Freda and Carl W. Schultze, founder of the New Hampshire Provision Company, best known for its Schultz hot dogs. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1954.

He proudly worked in his family's business for many years, and in the automobile business for a short time.

He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Alexandra and Alex Kerr, and granddaughter Lily, and daughters Cynthia, Jennifer and Amanda. He also is survived by three brothers, Donald, Frederick and Robert Schultze; his first and former wife as well as caregiver Margreth Butterworth; and second and former wife Charlene Schultze.

A service in remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover, N.H.

WE REMEMBER: Carl had a passion for iconic cars and fine guns. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent many summers lobstering off the coast of Portsmouth as a young adult. He loved to tell a good joke, and was admired for his tremendous memory of dates, people and places. His musical talent on the clarinet and saxophone was notable, inspired in large part by his love of jazz, Charlie Parker in particular. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and new granddaughter.

To the Schultze Family. I will always remember his happy smile and early morning greeting, at 6 A.M., as he helped me load my truck. Carl was a good man. My sincere sadness to read of his passing.
