Cornelia Osgood Obituary

CONCORD, N.H. — Cornelia Curtis Osgood, 88, a resident at Havenwood-Heritage Heights, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, surrounded by her family.

Cornelia was born Feb. 10, 1920, and grew up in Weston, Mass. She later lived in nearby Sudbury, Concord and Lincoln, where she raised a family and volunteered at the Audubon Society for many years before moving to York, Maine, in 1976 — where she lived until 1994. She then moved to Havenwood-Heritage Heights.

While living in York, she and her husband, the late Ernest H. Osgood Jr., were weekly volunteers at York Hospital. They were also active volunteers with Meals on Wheels, delivering food to shut-ins. They loved traveling every year to Austria where they would hike the mountains. Cornelia loved nature and enjoyed walking locally in Vaughn Woods in South Berwick, the Rachel Carlson Wildlife Preserve, and especially at Fort Foster in Kittery Point. Whatever she tackled in her life, she did with spunky energy and enthusiasm. She had a kind and giving spirit. She will always be remembered for her wonderful laugh and twinkle in her eye.

Cornelia is survived by her three children, David Smith, of Lopez, Wash., Susan Smith Hassman, of Denver, Colo., and Elliot Smith, of Topeka, Kan.; her brother, Elliot Smith, and his wife, Anne, of Lincoln, Mass.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
