It was an honor to take care of Fred as a patient, and get to know him and consider him a friend. Always with a good and optimistic attitude. We will all miss him in the office of Seacoast Cardiology.

Uncle Freddy was such a special uncle. I always enjoyed seeing him and talking to him on the phone. I will miss his special qualities. The one thing i"m always telling everyone is about how great a brother he was to Aunt Dot and my mother Esther. He always called them and visited them as often as he could. He took Esther on many trips to Greenville. They went to the lst day of the Moose Hunt and also to the Fly In. Whenever they were sick, he visited them and whenever we came to Maine he came to see us if he could. We have lots of beautiful memories of him. Esther talks about him all the time and we look at lots of old pictures and read old letters he sent to her while in the service.

Dear Larry & Kathy;
The entire staff of The York Hospital Pharmacy extends their deepest sympathies to you and your family.
We already miss our times with Fred. He was such a welcome face when he walked in our door. Everyone greeted him and stopped their duties for a moment to chat with him. We concluded that he only bought the daily newspaper in order to come in and say hello to all of us! He could have saved 50 cents a day and just come in-we always loved to see him. His positive attitude and sweet nature made it difficult to realize he was in declining health. You would never have known it by his cheerful smile and twinkle in his eyes! But that is something special we will always remember him for-his bright outlook and kind nature. So gentle and genuine. Everyone could learn life lessons from Fred and we thank him for the ones he showed us. He will be missed greatly and thought about often. You were so fortunate to have had such a wonderful person to call your own. Love, York Hospital Pharmacy Staff

Fred was my uncle and I can remember him always being a wonderful gentle quiet man. He always had a smile on his face. For quite a few years I did not get to see him but when he moved back to Maine I got to see him when I went to visit my mother (his sister) my daughter, Holly and her family. He will be missed greatly by Holly, her family and by me. He so enjoyed the twins and Brad and they always enjoyed getting to see him when he was visiting with Esther. We have lost a wonderful person who was loved by everyone he came in contact with.

Fred is my husband's grandfather, but I knew him even before I knew my husband. Even then, he was "Grampa" to me. I'll never forget how confident he was that Eric would ask me to marry him; at times he seemed almost as eager as I. After he passed away I realized that I was part of Grampa's VERY big fan club (which includes virtually every person Grampa has ever spoken to), but of course that came as no surprise. He makes me proud to be a McAfee.

Larry and Kathy
You know how special Uncle Fred was to me. He was there for me before a became a McAfee and he was always so sweet and caring after I added that "A" to my last name. He will always be one of my favorites. He will be missed by many.

A Dear Friend

April 8, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

We will miss Fred and his wonderful smile. It was always such a pleasure when he would come visit the Lobster Shack or stay at Camp. (Who will turn the camp antenna??) He was a real friend and brought joy to all of us. Fred was very proud of his family and loved all of you. He will be sadly missed.

Fred was my Father-in-Law but I thought of him as a father. I loved this man and we had a very close relationship. He was my buddy and I could always talk to him about anything. He was the kind of man who you respected just in the way he lived his life. He was a most decent, honest and gentle man. Generosity, kindness and warmth came naturally to him, as it was who he was and I doubt he would know how to live any other way. I learned so much from him about family devotion, patience and unconditional love. I have lost a dear friend, my dad.

Mr. McAfee was a wonderful personal and a true gentleman! I worked for Dr. Siegel's office, and recently "bumped" into Fred a couple of times. May God bless your family.
