James Beal Obituary
He was raised in Kittery attending local schools until late in high school when he and his family settled in Eliot and he graduated from Marshwood High School with the class of 1974.
Jim began a nearly thirty year career as a law enforcement officer working in the towns of North Berwick and New Castle before a long career with the Department of Defense Police Department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He began as a patrolman working his way up through the ranks retiring in 2013 as a Captain and Watch Commander. During his tenure at the PNSY Police Department he worked closely with training, especially the range where he served for over fifteen years as the range master. He earned a "Best Practice" award from the Department of the Navy for implementation of lead free ammunition on the range and worked closely with the design and production of the new range facility.
In 1975 he married his soul mate of nearly forty two years Kim (Junkins) Beal and together they enjoyed so much as a family, boating, camping, their many pets, motorcycle riding, photography owning and operating Beal Photography for many years.
A talented writer Jim also penned the Caroline Rose series of books under the name of Jay Fulton they were published and widely enjoyed by many.
His first love was unquestionably his family, time spent with his children and grandchildren were very special to him. He is survived by his wife Kim A. (Junkins), Mother Patricia M. Beal, Brother Alvah L. Beal Jr., Son James F. Beal Jr., and spouse Adrienne, daughter Kelley R. Buchanan and spouse James. Grandson Spencer James, granddaughter Emily Ann, grandson Alex James, grandson Owen James, Mother and father in-law Ed and Elleanor Junkins, brother-in-law and best friend Everett Junkins, sister-in-law Susan Hallam and spouse Jay, sister-in-law Joanna Cote and spouse Gary, special aunts Gwen Kelley, Lettie Baumann, and Earlene Kelley, many cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
SERVICES: Friends may visit with Jim's family on Sunday, from 6-8 p.m., in the JS Pelkey Funeral Hom,e 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine, 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Monday, in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com . Care for the Beal family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.

I'm very sorry to hear of Jims passing. Jim was my training sergeant, patrol supervisor and watch commander at the shipyard. He always looked out for the welfare of his fellow officers and and was a great wealth of knowledge and mentor to many over the years. My sincere condolences to your family. Rest In Peace Captain.

My condolences to the family. Although I only met James a few times, I remember hiring him at the PNSY many years ago when recruiting for law enforcement/security guards. He served with pride. Sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear of Beal's passing. He and I became friends while he worked at the range at PNS. He's a gentle man who spoke proudly of his family, and he always had a way of making tough days easier. I'm grateful for the times we worked together. Jim was my supervisor for many years and when I first heard of his passing, I found myself reflecting on the many talks we had on either photography or our dogs!! Right up to the last days we worked together he'd always ask how the "Boys" were. A very generous and sensitive man! RIP Jim.

My deepest and sincerest sympathies to Kim, Kelley, James Jr, James mom Patricia, and family. I had the pleasure of playing music with Jim in 1983, and being able to serve with him with the Department of Defense Police at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Jim was a great person, with a huge heart. He loved being an firearms instructor, and would never hesitate to lend an ear or advice when needed. I don't think there is anyone that couldn't say they did not love Jim. I am glad you aren't suffering anymore. Rest in Peace Jim. And may the Blue Light forever shine in your memory.
