Jean Holbrook Obituary

WOLFEBORO — Jean Balcom Holbrook, 84, formerly of Wolfeboro, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Ledgewood Manor, Windham, Maine.

She was born in Providence, R.I., on Jan. 20, 1923, and raised in Edgewood, R.I. She was the only child of the late John H. and Ruth (Barnes) Balcom.

She especially loved the cottage on Lake Wentworth in Wolfeboro that her parents built when she was nine. She moved there in 1977 and enjoyed the rest of her life as a resident of Wolfeboro. For many years she worked as a lab technician at Wolfeboro's Huggins Hospital and was a member of the Lake Wentworth Association.

Predeceased by her husband, George Louis "Gus" Holbrook in 1964, she raised their two children in North Attleborough, Mass.

She is survived by her loving son, George Louis "Jack" Holbrook and his wife, Sarah, of Lincoln, Mass; her devoted daughter, Carolyn B. Holbrook and her husband, Richard "Dick" Wurfel of Windham, Maine; as well as two grandchildren, George E. Holbrook and Grace C. Holbrook, of Lincoln, Mass.
