John Driscoll Obituary

RUSHVILLE, Ill. - John Francis "Jack" Driscoll, 82, of Rushville, Ill., passed away at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at his residence. He was born on December 3, 1934 at Portsmouth, N.H., a son of the late Jerome and Leonia Praye Driscoll.

He married Lorraine Frenette on April 7, 1956 in Portsmouth, N.H. She survives along with three sons, Greg Driscoll and wife Debbie of Rushville, Ill., Paul Driscoll of Rye, N.H., Wayne Driscoll and wife Cindy of East Kingston, N.H.; one daughter, Gail Walsh and husband Don of Unionville, Conn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy Taylor and husband Cliff of Portsmouth, N.H. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis J. "Jerry" Driscoll.

Jack proudly served in the US Marine Corp from 1953 to 1957. He then worked for the Federal Government for the next thirty years, first as a ship fitter and firefighter at the Portsmouth Navy Yard and finally as a firefighter at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth. Jack was a member of the Greenland, N.H. Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years.

After retiring, Jack and Lorraine volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for 17 years, founding a thriving Habitat chapter in Limerick, Maine. Jack enjoyed telling stories, gardening, cooking, hunting and fishing. More than anything, Jack loved spending time with family and friends, and most recently cooking with his loving granddaughter, Lily Belle. Jack touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. As Jack would say, one last time, "Don't get nervous."

SERVICES: Services will be held at a later date in Portsmouth, N.H. Worthington Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to NU-HOPE Elder Care Services of Sebring, Fla., or Cass-Schuyler Hospice. Sorry to hear of Jack's passing. A good friend, honest and caring. Jack was a great Deputy Fire Chief for me in Greenland, and someone, as Fire Chief, I could always count on. He thrilled the kids at the Greenland Central School with his "Ladder show" during fire prevention week activities.
My condolence's to the family.

My family and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We knew Jack in the 70's and I still have his pot that he made from stones ! What a great man with a sense of humor and wonderful stories. RIP Jack
