Raymond Leach Obituary

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Raymond C. Leach, 97, formerly of Waltham, Mass., Maynard, Mass., and York, Maine, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017. He was born March 6, 1920 in Waltham, Mass., a son of the late Raymond C. and Florence (Dozois) Leach.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had worked for the Mitre Corp. in Bedford, Mass. He was a Musician for 60 years and had his own Big Band, Ray Leach and the Suburbanaires. He was a member of the York Golf & Tennis Club and had a hole in one at the age of 83. He was the oldest of 15 children.

His wife Shirley C. (Harris) died in 2014. He leaves two sons, Richard Leach and his wife Denise of Maynard, Mass., and Robert Leach of Fitchburg, Mass.; a daughter Susan Day and her husband Henry of Fitchburg, Mass.; two step-sons, Geoffrey and his wife Terry of Hampton, N.H., and Gary Thomas of Waltham, Mass.; three brothers, Raymond Chester, James and Peter and a sister Genevieve; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; three sons, John, Alan and Michael and 10 brothers and sisters predeceased him.

SERVICES: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, August 19, in St. Christopher Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York, Maine, with a period of visitation for family and friends from 10-11 a.m., in the Church. Burial will be in Orchard Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher Church or the Waltham High School Music Dept. My deepest sorrow for Ray's family. I played bass for many of Ray's gigs over the years. Ray was a marvelous trombone player and a true professional. It was a pleasure to have known him. Rest in peace Ray. Gil Boule
