Walter Goterch Obituary

SALEM - Walter Goterch, 84, of Salem, died Thursday, Nov. 25, at his home surrounded by family.

Walter was born and educated in Methuen, Mass., the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Gazda) Goterch, and he lived in Salem for 60 years. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division with the 506th Screaming Eagles during World War II. Walter retired from Raytheon.

He is burvived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Alfrieda (Galitzki) Goterch of Salem; his son, Richard Goterch, and wife Mary, of Fremont; his daughter, Susan Friedrich, and partner Russell Sprague, of Salem; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

WE REMEMBER: Walter was a Life Member of VFW Post# 8546 of Salem, a member of the Derry Salem Elks, and a member of the Hampton River Boat Club.

His greatest love was his family and he loved spending time with them. Walter enjoyed gardening and delighting in his prized tomatoes. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking, taking care of his home and yard and spending time with his dog, Otto.

SERVICES: Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. #9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
