Allie Ann Christman Evans

Allie Ann Evans was born in 1917 in Tony, WI. to Nick and Ethel Christman. Allie graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1938, and receiving her public health nurse certification from the University of Minnesota School Of Public Health in June, 1939. She worked as a nurse for the State of Wisconsin until becoming a home maker.

Allie met Dr. Charles Evans while attending nursing school, and they were married in 1939. Their long and happy marriage produced four children. In 1946 they came to Lake Forest Park, WA so Charles could accept the Chair of Microbiology at the newly forming U of W Medical School. Allie's parents joined them in 1948, following the death of their oldest child, Nicholas. Allie's parents were a tremendous help in raising children and managing their home.

Allie was active in the schools and city government, including organizing the Lake Forest Park campaign for sewer bonds, Chairman of the City Planning Commission and candidate for mayor.

Allie intuitively understood and cared about others. Christoph Spielberg, a 1964 high school exchange student from Germany, remains part of her family, as does Valerie Lui, who lived with Chuck and Allie in her early adulthood.

After her children were grown, Allie tried many vocations: bookkeeper, travel agent, beauty salon owner, restaurant owner, jewelry design, and ultimately a return to nursing at Home Health Services of Puget Sound, where she served as Director of all agency programs. In 1984 she became a private consultant for Crista Home Care and for Catholic Community Services in Snohomish County, focusing on front line personnel and home health aides.

Allie's hobbies included sewing, knitting, cooking, jewelry making, reading, and above all conversation with people from all walks of life. Later in life she received excellent care from her personal assistant Clara Ma, her wonderful neighbors and friends, skilled care givers, her renter Tai, and her family.

Mrs. Evans is survived by her daughter Susan Evans (husband Bill Layman, children Nathan Layman, Genevieve Sweeney), son Thomas Evans (wife Julia Evans, children Hillary Graber, Alice Evans), daughter Carol McClain (husband Bill McClain, children Kevin McClain, Kelsey McClain), great grandchild, Marley Layman, and one on the way, baby boy Graber.

Remembrances to Northwest Harvest. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
