Carolyn Gottschalk Obituary

Carolyn Hough GOTTSCHALK July 18, 1927 - October 21, 2006 Carolyn was the most loving, loyal and special mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, sister and friend imaginable. With a smile and a kind word for everyone, her love and encouragement made every day brighter and brought hope for every tomorrow. Carolyn provided a warm and caring home and spread the love of Christ by example, through words, deeds and service. Always concerned for the well-being of others, Carolyn was a friend to many, of all beliefs, ages and professions. She cooked the best barbequed beef brisket in the land and loved jumping in the car to chase rainbows and view sunsets. Her spunk and spirit brought joy to all who knew her. Born and raised in Tulsa, OK, Carolyn was the youngest of five siblings and played marimba and piano in the family orchestra as a child. She was a longtime resident of Louisville, KY and had moved to Edmonds, WA in 2001. She passed away in Seattle on October 21 following a stroke. A lover of music and art, Carolyn attended Oklahoma University, Baylor University and the American Academy of Art in Chicago, IL, where she met her husband of more than 50 years, George Gottschalk, Jr. Carolyn enjoyed a career as a commercial artist, homemaker, medical office assistant, product distributor, publishers representative, amateur writer and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville, where she was a founding member of the church's Bereavement Committee. She was a member of Maple Park Lutheran Brethren Church in Lynnwood, WA, where she was active in the Seniors Bible Study. She was also a member of numerous social clubs over the years. Carolyn is survived by children, George Gottschalk, III (Catherine), of Louisville, KY, and Angela Gottschalk (Bruce Culver), of Edmonds, WA, grandchildren, George, IV and Richard Gottschalk, Hayley and Abby Culver, brother, Wallace M. Hough Jr., of Tulsa, OK, sisters, Betsy White, of Tulsa, OK, Pat Knight, of Oklahoma City, Cathy Herndon, of Oklahoma City, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, George Gottschalk, Jr. and parents, Wallace M. Hough and Flossie Mae Williamson Hough. Carolyn's greatest gift to us is her love of Christ and the assurance that there is eternal life for all believers. A Memorial Service will be held at Maple Park Lutheran Brethren Church, 17620 60th Ave W, in Lynnwood, WA 98037 on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made to Maple Park Lutheran Brethren Church in the name of Carolyn Gottschalk.

It is hard to imagine that I have only known Carolyn for a few short years. Her love made my life brighter during a very difficult time. Her warmth was unmatched. She will always be Mammy in our hearts and we know how lucky were are to have known this special friend. She will be missed but always remembered.

Aunt Carolyn was the perfect example of Jesus first, others second, yourself last. No matter the circumstances, she radiated joy in her faith and love for those she met. She will be missed.

Aunt Carolyn's creativity was not limited to her art and writing. She made each person she met feel special. We will miss her terribly and rejoice in seeing her again one day.
