Cedric Hannon Obituary

Cedric HANNON Cedric George Hannon was born on August 5, 1922, in Olympia, Washington, the middle son of three boys. He graduated from Olympia High and attended St. Martin's College, Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon and received his Master's Degree from Columbia University. Cedric also attended Central and Western Washington Universities. His schooling was interrupted by World War II. He joined the Navy and was immediately sent to Kansas, where he attended Washburn University and was in the first graduating class of men to learn about a new thing called radar. He then went to Hollywood, Florida to teach classes about radar. During his Navy career he was stationed in San Diego on an Admiral's staff and was a skipper on a minesweeper. He also drove landing craft onto Okinawa to deposit troops. His teaching career began in Hell's Kitchen in New York City. That lasted one week and he came home to Olympia. He worked as a Pinkerton detective during the summer for a fish cannery in Alaska. He taught for the Military Dependents School in Germany, Japan, France, and England. He taught in the Kent School District at Thomas Elementary, Kent Jr. High, and Kentridge High and evening classes at Highline Community College. He loved sailing, boating, fishing, and just looking at the water. He married his wife of 48 years, Irene, in France in 1959. He and his wife loved to travel in their RV; making several trips cross country and up and down the coast. He is survived by his wife, Irene; his daughter, Kathleen Kucera (Bob); his son, Timothy, 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. A Reception will follow at the family home. We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Hannan. I was a student of his a Kent Jr. High in the '60s. He was a kind, no nonsense teacher. The next time I saw him was 30 years later at a body shop in Puyallup. He hadn't changed much at all. He was very gracious. I'm sure he will be missed.
