Cass was on my Ph.D. committee (degree awarded 1971). I knew him well all four years at UW. In looking back, Cass taught me some of the most important lessons about how to be a good college professor, e.g., role of doing research. It took years for me to fully appreciate his advice. I have passed it on to thousands of my students. John Gamble, Distinguished Prof., Penn State Univer., Erie, PA

A ornery old man but kind & caring at the same time. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to experience you. Parts of you rubbed off on me which I continue to carry on my own journey through life.

Thanks Cass,

I was blessed in the early 70's by becoming friends with my poli-sci prof. His unromantic views of revolution and mush-headed thinking were trademarks I will ever adore. His kindness and support over the decades were invaluable to me. His guileless charm befit an Italian prince wandering our evergreens. He was skilled at the games he chose only to be failed by health like a mortal. His travels were magnificent. Cass was unlike any man I have ever known. That we were friends I was blessed. My sincere sympathies to his beautiful family. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Cass was my graduate advisor, teacher, and friend in the late 1960's. I played 2nd base on his softball team, enjoyed many nights at his home arguing about political theory and world politics, and resisted his entreaties to smoke one of his famous cigars! He was kind, thoughtful, and fully invested in his teaching and scholarship. I know at least one generation of graduate students are greatly in his debt and will miss him. My best to his family.
