Darryl Irene STARK Darryl Irene Stark passed peacefully in the company of her daughters May 22, 2011. Darryl was born October 3, 1923 to Adlai G. and Ethel Mae Johnson in Anselmo Nebraska. She was the second of four children. Darryl grew up in Genoa Nebraska, where her father was the Superintendent of Schools. During World War II Darryl served in the Women's Army Corps as a medical technician, stationed in New York City. She attended Reed College, in Portland Oregon, on the GI Bill, earning a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. At Reed, she met her future husband, Benjamin G. Stark. They were married at Ben's family home in Kent WA. Darryl and Ben celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last August. Darryl read the newspaper front to back everyday. She inspireda love of literature, whether historical fiction, or cookbooks in her family. She was a lifelong Democrat and attended Saltwater Unitarian Church. Darryl loved the smell of low tide, the sound of the surf, the stuff found in tide pools. She relished trips anywhere on the Pacific Coast. The beaches at LaPush were her favorite. Darryl was preceded by brothers, Doyle and Herbert Johnson, sister, Betty Lou Kaiser and son Steven Stark, She is survived by husband Ben, daughters, Susan (Mark) Gedosch, Shelley (LW Abel) Stark, sons Peter (Judy) and Patrick Stark, and grandchildren, Stuart Gedosch and Callie and Sam Stark. The family thanks the staff at Evergreen Hospice for the compassionate care Darryl received. A Memorial Service celebrating Darryl's life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 18 at the S.G.I.-USA Seattle Community Center, 3438 S. 148th St. Tukwila, WA. Light refreshments will be served.
