David Hill Obituary

David Lee Hill

Fall City, Washington

David Lee Hill, 62, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 while visiting his mother in Virginia, after a two year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Hill of Hampton, VA, and his older brother, Everett Hill of North Carolina.

David graduated from Hampton High School in 1972 and completed an Associate's Degree in Marine Science in 1975 from Thomas Nelson Community College. In 1976, he took a road trip to Seattle, WA with one of his best friends, Scott Buttles, and never returned to live in Virginia. David made Washington state his home for all of these years, working in the engineering and surveying industry as a professional surveyor, and ultimately worked at Concept Engineering, a small engineering/surveying company in Issaquah, WA. He loved to go camping with his family on the weekends at the Morrow family place and loved to golf and play the guitar.

David is survived by his wife of 26 years, Patty Morrow Hill, and his two beautiful daughters, Amy and Kelly Hill, all of Fall City; his mother, Trudy Routten Hill of Yorktown, VA; his brother, Michael Hill (Gail) of California; and his nieces and nephews and many cousins from both the Hill family and the Routten family. He is also survived by his best lifelong friends, Jack Jones of Charles City, VA, Scott Buttles of Bellevue, WA, and Ed Ruthford of Edmonds, WA.

The family will receive friends Saturday, September 10, 11:30 am-

12:30 pm, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, VA. A Celebration of David's life will immediately follow at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. A second memorial service will be held in Fall City at a future date. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com

Very sorry to hear of David's passing. Condolences to Patty and the girls.
Dave and I always worked in different survey firms but have known each other for nearly 40 years. We met as young guns on the Sammamish Plateau, and later at several survey conferences and classes. We finally studied together and passed the Washington Licensing exam at the same time. I have considered Dave as one of my closest friends, anywhere. What a great guy. I will miss him dearly.

David and I grew up in Hampton Christian Church and on occasions, I would go to his home on Lee St. for Sunday lunch. I have always thought a lot of the Hill Family and am very sorry to hear about David's passing.

David has been a friend of our entire family since the late 1960's in Hampton, VA. He spent a lot of time visiting my family at our childhood home during his high school years.

Even though we hadn't seen him since he moved to WA in the 1970's, we stayed in touch over the years and had communicated primarily via e-mail the last few years. He shared with us his cancer diagnosis, but always remained very courageous, strong and positive.

David was a great fun loving person who truly loved life and will be missed by everyone who knew him. I can remember his infectious laugh and personality and it still brings a smile to my face after all these years.

My entire family's thoughts and prayers go out to his mother Trudy, wife, children, brother Mike, and to his entire family and friends who loved him.

Rest in peace old friend; you will be missed!

Dave was an amazing man and I count myself very lucky to have had him as a friend, He was honest, reliable and could always be counted on to cover my back. He was a DGM (Damn Good Man) and the world is a poorer place without him.

Dave, You had a special way about you. Your gentleness, soft spoken voice, and kindness made people in your presence feel welcome in your life. I feel privileged that you were and still are in my life. You were a real man. I will see you again my friend.
