Farrell Albright Obituary

Dr. Farrell Franklin Albright

Mercer Island resident Dr. Farrell Albright passed away January 16, 2013 at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle with family by his side. Farrell was born May 25, 1933 to the late Frederick and Susanne (Giese) Albright. He grew up with his brother Gary in Milwaukie, Oregon. After graduating from Milwaukie High School in 1952, Farrell enrolled in the University of Oregon in Eugene on an athletic scholarship. He was an All-Time Oregon Letterman and active on both the football and baseball teams as halfback and pitcher. He continued his education at the University of Oregon School of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine. Farrell married Corinne Brannen in 1959 and they became proud parents to sons Stephen and Gregory. Dr. Albright built his dental practice on Mercer Island, and retired from his career in 1991 after over 30 years of dedication and hard work. In 2008, Farrell was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. Farrell was a life-long member of the Washington Athletic Club and enjoyed the drive to downtown Seattle to work out, visit with friends, and enjoy a good lunch. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Mercer Island, where he watched sons marry and grandchildren be baptized. Farrell and Corinne enjoyed entertaining in their home and many travels exploring the world together, including an African safari and various cruises. Farrell was an avid hunter and fisherman, and especially looked forward to his yearly salmon fishing trips to Alaska with his sons, brother and nephews, where he was the organizer, "caterer" and chief cook of the tasty meals enjoyed during their time "in the rough." Farrell spent many years coaching youth football. He continued to follow football throughout his lifetime and was a vocal, enthusiastic armchair quarterback. Farrell also enjoyed cheering on his five grandchildren at horse shows, dance recitals and football games. Farrell's larger-than-life presence provided the entertainment and charm in many family gatherings, and his big smile and hearty voice, his "Hello, Doll!" greeting to female family members and his enjoyment of the good things in life will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Corinne, son Stephen and fiance; Karol, son Gregory and wife Shama, granddaughters Chelsea, Katelyn and Claire, twin grandsons Bailey and Tyler, brother Gary and wife Carolyn, twin nephews Russell and Randall, and a large extended family. He was appreciated and will be fondly remembered by his past patients, many friends and business associates, his church and community, and especially by his family members. Private services are planned at a later time with a reception for family and close friends to follow. Donations may be made to Seattle Humane Society (seattlehumane.org) or Smile Train (smiletrain.org) in lieu of flowers.

Farrell was Milwaukie High's top athlete! Also, the best looking and nicest guy in our class of '51

Farrell was larger than life even in junior high school where we of the class of '51 first met him.

I first met Farrell playing handball and later racketball at the WAC. He and Corrine were fun personal friends.

He will always be remembered in my mind as a modern "John Wayne" type... a real mans/man. We have lost a great American patriot.

I met Farrell at the WAC where we would gather around the round tables in the 6th floor locker room before and after workouts. I enjoyed talking to him about sports and life. He will be missed.

Dr. Albright was my childhood dentist and only dentist until he retired. Our whole family including my parents Richard and Lois, and also my three younger brother's Mark, Kevin and Jeff Hummel were also patients. We also would enjoy seeing Dr. Albright at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where our family were also member's. Dr. Albright will always be remembered as a kind dentist with a wonderful sense of humor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
