William Leichty Obituary

William A. Leichty, of Masonville, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 27, 1928, son of the late Jacob and Ella (Rowsom) Leichty in Boonville, town of Leyden.
Bill graduated from Boonville Central School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1952, serving in Korea as a member of the 936th Field Artillery Battalion 1st Corp., Artillery Battery C. He was honorably discharged in October 1953.
Bill married Leona Fike on June 5, 1954, in Rome. She predeceased him Jan. 1, 2003.
He was employed by Amphenol Corp. (Scintilla) as a machinist for 42 years.
Bill loved gardening, sharing extra produce with family, friends and neighbors. He was a local high school sports enthusiast and supporter. Bill enjoyed old-time fiddle music and square dancing.
He was a member of the Del-Se-Nango Fiddlers Music Haven, McDonough; Old Tyme Fiddlers' Association, Osceola; and Fiddlin's Fun, Binghamton.
He was an honorary lifetime member of Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post No. 183 in Sidney. He served as commander for two terms, as well as Delaware County First Vice Commander.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Cathi Leichty, Unadilla; son, Gary Leichty, Crystal River, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and David Reynolds, Bainbridge; six grandchildren, Sean (Heather) Coleman, William and Matthew Leichty, Kelly, Michael and Kim Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Jesse and Peyton Coleman; his very close companion, friend and wonderful person, Cathy Edholm, her grandchildren and family. Six sisters, Doris Casamento, Rome, Marian Carpenter, Constableville, June and Harry Jenks, Boonville, Rita Shanks, Boonville, Noreen and John Smith, Port Leyden, and Irene and Joseph Grenier, Boonville; sister-in-law, Barbara Leichty; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Bill.
He was predeceased by his brother, Walter Leichty; three sisters, Evelyn DeVoe, Erma Berger and Frances Burki.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at St. Luke's Lutheran, 139 West Main St., Sidney. Burial with military honors will follow in Masonville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post No. 183, Union Street, Sidney, NY 13838. Arrangements by C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
