GEORGINE GUINTOLI Obituary

Georgine Picardo GUINTOLI Georgine Cecelia Picardo Guintoli ('Georgie') died peacefully on November 11, 2011. With her passing her family marks a milestone - Georgine was the youngest member of the first generation of the Picardo family to be born in America and the final one to leave us. As with all members of that generation her love of family, friends and entertaining (food) were the hallmarks of her long and happy life. Born on October 21, 1918 in the South Park district of Seattle to Antoinette and Sabino Picardo she spent the majority of her life in the Green Lake neighborhood. Her father, alongside the other men in the family, worked the 'Picardo Farm' in Ravenna which eventually became the site of the first P-Patch in Seattle. Georgie attended Fairview Elementary, John Marshall Junior High and Roosevelt High School. In May of 1939 she married Dean Guintoli (of Tacoma) at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Seattle. They had a long and happy marriage of 60+ years until Dean passed away in 2000. Throughout their marriage the couple delighted in each other, their large Italian families and their close friends. They loved to entertain and to travel. Very committed to showcasing the beauty and resources of Seattle, Dean was associated with the Seattle World's Fair in 1962, and later signed on with the Spokane World's Fair in 1974, which was a source of pride and new experiences for both of them. Georgie was a fantastic cook and baker and hosted literally thousands of dinner parties over the past 70+ years, the final one on her 93rd birthday at her home. At her parties were three staples: beloved family and friends, an abundance of food and wine, and lots and lots of laughter. She was one-of-a-kind and will be missed very much by all who knew her. In addition to Dean, preceding her in death were her parents, and a beloved brother Armando (1933). She is survived by many nieces and nephews in the Guintoli family in Tacoma, and many cousins and friends in Seattle and Italy. A memorial Mass will be heldat Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Edmonds on Saturday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Group Health Cooperative Hospice.
