Gerald Haughian Obituary

Gerald A. (Jerry) Haughian

Jerry was born in Seattle, WA June 24, 1932 to Gerald and Louise Haughian. He passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's July 24, 2018 with his loving wife by his side.

Jerry attended St. Johns elementary school, Seattle Prep, and Seattle University before joining the United States Airforce in 1950. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict as a Radar Operator. After returning from his tour in Korea in 1953, he met Dolores Demarte. They were married in 1955. In 1957 Jerry joined the Seattle Fire Department. He was stationed at Ladder 3 in the Central District of Seattle during the beginning of his career. In 1970 Jerry was selected to be included in the 4th training class of Paramedics and spent the remaining years of his career as a Paramedic in the Seattle Fire Dept.

He loved handicapping thorough-bred horses and did so on a daily basis. After his retirement in 1982, Jerry and Dolores visited 51 race tracks throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada in their fifth wheel trailer. For 20 years they spent their summers at The City Park in Lake Chelan. In 1990 they made their home in Las Vegas and lived there for the next 25 years. In 2006 Jerry was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. In 2015 Dolores moved Jerry to Marysville WA to be close to some of their sons and their family. Six months later Jerry was moved into The Cottage's Memory Care facility. Even though they did not live together Dolores visited her husband every day for the two and a half years in the care facility.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his younger siblings; brother Mike, sisters Betty, Pat and Maureen.

Jerry is survived by: his wife Dolores; daughter Paddy Ciesla

(Wally); four sons Marty, Rick (Anne), Jamie, and Barry; Eleven grandchildren, Marcy Perry, Steven Perry (Kelsey), Nicklaus

Haughian, Nicholas Haughian (Jessica), Constance Kimmell (Mike), Marcus Haughian (Carly), Hunter Haughian, Spencer Haughian, Dominic Haughian (Audrey), Isabella

Haughian and Catherine Haughian; six great grand-children; his youngest brother Greg (Judy); brother in law Joe Demarte (Kay); Aunt Virginia Bakken; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dolores would like to thank the caregivers at The Cottages, especially; Jeff, Kami, Lucia, Lisa, and Thelma for their loving care. A special thanks to longtime friend, Don Wyvel and his daughter Debbie, for their frequent visits and support.
