Gerald Van Slyck Obituary

Gerald Gene VAN SLYCK Jerry passed away on 10.1.10 from a Brain Tumor at the age of 79. He is preceded by his brother Ron Van Slyck, his 4 children, and 10 grandchildren. Jerry was a Veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of the University of Washington Architecture school. He lived a rich full life as a loving Father and Architect, designing Houseboats to Hospitals that brought function and beauty to the people who used them. His philosophy of simple living and functional design was recognized and appreciated by family, friends, and colleagues alike. As an avid hiker and skier he found great pleasure in nature. Walking the Burke Gilman Trail or slopping through the Olympics, nothing stopped him. He always looked at the positive side of everything. Most importantly he was a devoted Father ready to help, encourage and support his children Gina Van Slyck, Paul Van Slyck, Andra Zito, and Crista Van Slyck Matteson who will miss him dearly. At his request there was a small private gathering to celebrate his life. Donations can be given in Jerry's name to Washington Trails Association.

Barbara and I send our condolences to all of you for the loss of your father.
We lost touch with your family over the years, but hold fond memories of many Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings in years past. My mother (Virginia Van Slyck Compton) was Henry's sister.
Regards,
John & Barbara Compton
