Hajime Hirata Obituary

Hajime "Gabby" Hirata

Hajime "Gabby" Hirata passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013. He was born on February 7, 1923 to Taikichi and Kikuye (Murasugi) Hirata, in Seattle, WA. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Michiko (Ishii), sisters-in-law Mary and Meriko Hirata, children Judy (Ron Ching), Ken (Debbe), Cathy (Robert Skinner), Ross (Debbie), 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger brothers Osamu and Satoshi Hirata.

Hajime served in the US Army occupational services during World War II and worked for 35 years for the Postal Service before he retired.

The biggest joy in Hajime's life was his children and grandchildren.

The Hirata family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ilan Zawadzki, Dr. William Shaul, Butch Caparas and the fantastic crew at the DaVita Olympic View Dialysis Center. The compassion, grace and humor they combined with outstanding patient care is remembered with deepest appreciation.

Services will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seattle Buddhist Church, NVC Foundation, Nikkei Concerns, American Kidney Association or a favorite charity.

My heartfelt condolences to Michi and all the Hirata family. I will miss Hajime at the family gatherings that Cathy has so kindly included me in. I'll hold great memories of his smile and kindness. His legacy is rich in the beautiful family that he and Michi created. My deepest sympathy.
