Herbert Alfred Hellan

Herbert Alfred HELLAN September 23, 1906 - November 17, 2004 Born Denny Regrade area; raised and lived his whole life in Seattle. Attended Cascade Elementary, graduated in 1924 from Roosevelt High. Sold Seattle Times age of 10 years at Westlake Ave. & Pine in 1916. A skilled tile- setter for many years. Served in the Navy as an Aviation Metal Smith during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge. Serving in the Navy, earned a pilot's license in Texas. In 1954, he designed and built a home on the hill above Kenmore Air Harbor where he watched planes and Kenmore Air Harbor as it grew. Flew seaplanes out of Kenmore Air Harbor with part ownership in two planes and more than one partner. Associated with the Air Harbor from its beginning. In latter years, did odd jobs at Air Harbor til at 95 years retired. Survived by niece Nona Kessler of Sequim, WA and her son Gary Larson of Seattle.
