Inga Bolang Obituary

Inga Lisa Bolang

Born February 11, 1925, in by, Province of Skne, Sweden. Inga passed away June 24th, 2014 surrounded by her family.

Parents were Alfred and Betty (Svenson) Wihlborg. Inga was the youngest of seven siblings, all preceding her in death.

After completing her studies at Brkne-Hoby College she was accepted at Birgitta School of Nursing in Linkping, Sweden. She received her diploma in 1950 and continued working at the District Hospital in Linkping.

In 1952 she met Per Bolang, an engineer at Saab Aircraft in Linkping. They married in 1953 & had two children, Karin & Anders.

In 1957 the family moved to the town of Skultuna in the province of Vstmanland. Per had accepted a position with Svenska Metallverken.

In 1958 the family was debating whether to accept an offer from Convair Aircraft Company in San Diego, California. In the fall they made the big move to the United States.

After two years in San Diego, Per accepted an offer from Boeing and the family moved to Seattle and settled in Bellevue.

In the fall of 1963 Inga and Per attended classes at Bellevue Community College in order to become US citizens. They, together with their children Karin and Anders, became US citizens in March 1964, just a few weeks before the birth of their 3rd child, Lisa.

Inga always seemed to treat all her duties more like hobbies. She was an excellent chef and baker, loved to invite friends and relatives to delicious meals at elegant table settings. She also loved weaving, sewing and gardening, where her roses were her pride and joy. Her planning for camping trips with the whole family lead to travels throughout all of the western United States and Canadian provinces.

Inga was active in church, teaching Sunday school, and was active as a Room Mother in the children's schools. After the children had left home, Inga found time to volunteer both at the Swedish Club and the Nordic Heritage Museum. The favorite job was in the Museum Gift Shop, where she enjoyed visiting with customers from near and far.

Inga enjoyed traveling with Per around Europe, Australia and New Zealand and cruising the rivers in China and Europe, including Russia. In 1992 Per had the opportunity to take a consulting assignment for Boeing in Indonesia. Inga planned excursions, where they experienced the culture of Asia, highlights being visits to Yogyakarta and Bali.

Inga had a love for music and she and Per were Seattle Opera season ticket holders for many years.

Inga was a loving mother and grandmother. She took every opportunity to arrange parties for all occasions so that the whole family could be together and keep both our Swedish and American traditions alive. She always had a camera ready to capture these gatherings as well as their travels, keeping the memories for all to enjoy.

Inga is survived by her husband Per, her children, Karin Harder (Fred), Anders Bolang (Karen) & Lisa Harpster (Scott), their grandchildren, Eric Harder (Liz) & Calista Harder, Gordon & Bailey Harpster and many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to University Presbyterian Church, Nordic Heritage Museum, Museum of Flight, or the Swedish Cultural Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, July 9th at University Presbyterian Church. To sign Inga's guest book go to www.washelli.com.

Dear Karin,
I came across this notification of your mother's passing, as I was searching for a family obituary. I have fond memories of you; and the kindness of your mother and family. I visited at your home during our friendship in Jr High. Your Mom was always so welcoming! I loved the 'Swedish atmosphere' of your home. My mother's parents had also immigrated from Sweden. While this condolence is belated; it is sincere. Pegi Fariss (Berdan) June 2015

To the Bolang Family,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Inga.

I have wonderful memories of hanging out at the Bolang house with Lisa and the rest of the gang in high school. One of the best parts was getting to chat with Inga…usually in the kitchen. As a 17/18 year old it was sometimes awkward talking to adults but not Inga. She was always quick to laugh and always asked great questions or just flat out gave me a bad time…which I deserved.

As I get older I look back fondly on those that have had a positive influence on my life or those who have made me smile….Inga Lisa Bolang is one of those people.

Mina Kondoleanser,
