Janice Hughes Obituary

Janice Lorene Hughes, 65, of Anchorage, passed away April 9, 2013 at her home. Janice was born February 20, 1948 to Paul and Mildred Kimberling in Merced CA. She lived in Alaska from 1953 -55, while her father served in the Army. Janice grew up living in Albuquerque, graduating from college in Vista California.

She returned to Alaska with her young children in 1981, residing in Anchorage until her death. She met her second husband, Preston Hughes in 1988, they married on February 14, 1995 in La Vegas.

Janice worked for ML&P from 1992 to 1996, leaving to work for the MOA until 1999. Janice began her life's career as a Massage Therapist in 1993. She devoted her life to healing others with her enormous energy, knowledge and talent until her death.

Janice was dearly loved by her clients, friends and family. Janice's dedication to her practice was shown in her unwavering search for knowledge and new skills, with which she pushed the bounds of healing. Janice never stopped learning new techniques and applying new ideas in her massage practice.

Many of her clients lived more comfortable, happy and productive lives because of her skills and enthusiasm for her practice. She was loved by her family, friends and by her clients. She deeply loved her clients, as she thought of them like her "extended" family.

Janice is survived by husband, Preston Hughes; sons Paul and Jonathan Parrish; daughter Kimberly Reynolds; daughter-in-laws Cathy and Lesle, son-in-law Jason, and her grandchildren Aaron, Emily, Rosie, Jackson, Olivia and Zachary. She was the light of her family's life.

The greatest joys and love of her life were her family and the looks of relief on the faces of her clients after a session. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and clients. The world lost a wonderful and beautiful soul with her passing.

Her memorial service will be held Sunday, April 28th at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E. Street in Anchorage. In lieu of flowers, guests are encouraged to bring a dish for the potluck immediately after the service.

My dearest angel Janice. I miss you today as I missed you the day the Lord called you home.

It has been 8 years since you passed, yet the intensity of loss is as strong as if it was yesterday.

I will love you forever here on earth until I meet you again in heaven. I rest assured that our Lord had plans for you the day he called you home.

His plans required you more than we did. Although the loss of you in my daily life is great, I feel your guidance each day.

I hear your words and feel your gentle guidance in all aspects of my daily life.

Thank you my love for sharing your wonderful life with me. I am the luckiest husband on the earth.

'Poppet' and the cycle of life

Paul and Cathy

September 11, 2013

Little did we know at the time, but life begins just as mysteriously and remarkably as it ends... Janice will become a grandmother for the seventh time in January 2014 with the birth of her first son's first child. And the initial flutterings were alive, there in Alaska, during her funeral.

Busy with family ties, we only found out upon our return to the United Kingdom, and were speechless with surprise. No gender or name has been arrived at, but 'Poppet' has provisionally been given as a term of endearment (it's a British colloquialism, as in, 'cup of tea Pet?').

If it's a girl, we'll likely name her Aurora. Much like a pregnancy, it's a name that has been gestating for a long time. I even told Mom about the potential name years ago. As I remember it, Mom went suddenly silent, perhaps expecting I was about to announce imminent pregnancy news. In the end, I never learnt whether Mom approved of the name or not, but doubtless she would be pleased. Her encouragement and bottomless positivity are much missed.

Loving Memories of Janice will forever be a light in my heart. My time with her was far too short. I miss her dearly and my heart goes out to those she loved and who loved her back. She was a special light in this often dark world.

Janice's comfort and healing hands were extensions of Love, Light and Healing. Visits over lunch, and the health sessions alike, were so comforting. She had a way of soothing away the hurt on the inside with her compassion and understanding. And healing many aches and pains with her gift of healing. Her gentle and kind spirit will always remain in our memories. I am so thankful for the gems of wisdom, care and compassion that she shared so generously. Our condolances to Preston and family. You're in our prayers.

I will always remember her big smile and laughter. She was a very personable person, kind and thoughtfull to all. I watched as the love grew for her and Preston and envied that love. I will end this knowing you are at peace with God watching over all of us. You will be missed by many.

A wonderful soul has left this earth
Her life has ceased to be
Her soul has gone to Heaven
When God said, “Come with me.”

The hearts she touched are breaking
But the love inside remains
For every moment spent with her
Left much for all to gain

For all the ones she left behind
And all the lives she's touched
Are greater just by knowing
That she was loved so much

If she were here right now
She'd say, “Please don't weep for me.”
Please live your life to its fullest
Because I am now free

I was so saddened to hear of Janice's passing. She was such a caring, loving person. She was a good friend to have in your heart and had a knack for great massages as well. Preston, Kim, and the rest of the family, I am so sorry for your loss. I read this not too long ago and it comfrots me in thinking of Janice: her teporary journey in this world has ended. I am sure her journey into the next world will be a good one.

"Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still."
Janice was a kind and caring mother-in-law: she loved Paul, and by extension, me - even though we are so far away, we feel her love still.

Janice,
I'll miss you dearly. You touched my life in many ways. I am in great lament yet so grateful I have the many memories from our sharing facets of life. Our lunches at Perfect Cup, connecting healing sessions, the many classes, and talks of the mysteries and magic of life and the universe.

I have only met Janice on two occasions. In 2009, Janice bravely flew halfway across the world with Preston and members of her family to attend the wedding of her elder son, Paul, and our younger daughter, Catherine (Cathy). We lunched with them in Edinburgh, and then showed them around Edinburgh Castle. We met again at the wedding & reception/ceilidh. I thought Janice was a quiet, lovely lady, full of kindness. I was touched by the way she cheerfully made the effort to speak slowly and clearly to me, due to my total deafness. We are truly sad at her death and know she will be much missed.

She was not only a wonderful friend but an exceptional healer. My fondest memory of her is when she would sit by the river with a never-ending roaring fire. She kept the wood cutters quite busy.

Aunt Janice.. Our relationship was an interesting one, and we weren't ever close.. But you were always kind to me, you were willing to talk to me about issues that everyone else avoided, and you supported me during the time I needed support the most. You are and were an important part of my family, and I loved you and will miss you.

Janice was one of the kindest, loving, most genuine people I have ever had the honor of knowing. I so looked forward to my sessions with her, because she had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world. She is physically gone and that is so terribly painful. However, I know her soul and spirit are still here, and she will continue her work, just in a different way. I think our beloved Janice is now in a place where she can help heal the world. Godspeed, my dear, sweet, beautiful friend. Until we meet again...
