Janice Leonard Obituary

Janice Sand Leonard

Janice Sand Leonard was born in Seattle on November 25, 1953 to Mary and Milton (Smokey) Sand. She left us on November 21, 2015. Jan was raised in the Rainier Valley and graduated from Holy Names Academy and Seattle University. Jan was a past president for the Seattle Advertising Federation and Yakima Advertising Association and enjoyed many years in the radio advertising industry in both markets. Jan has worked for the Issaquah School District Administrative office ever since. She loved her work and her co-workers, and continued working throughout her eight year battle with cancer. She routinely showed how strong a person can be when faced with terrible odds. She had an enviable enthusiasm for life and family. Jan and her baking talents were always anticipated at family gatherings and many other events and will be greatly missed.

She leaves her husband, Tom Jr, children, Elise (Doug), Tom III (Estera), Alex, grandchildren, Olivia, Simon, Adelyn; brother Craig (Joanne) Sand and many, many more family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 10th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Renton at 1:00 PM.

There are some people that one meets in a lifetime that make a difference, that you never forget. I worked with Jan at Radio Station KUTI in Yakima, WA in the late 70's. Fresh from a divorce Jan provided me the laughter and friendship I needed at that time. Nonjudgmental and always full of laughter, she made my life more enjoyable. Rest in peace my long lost friend (I was sorry to have lost contact with you after my days in "radio.")You will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to you, Tom, and your family at this time.

Tom and children,Janice's strength, resilience and unfailing sense of humor will remain in my memory of her. I will never forget her singing the rawhide song in 8th grade when she was supposed to be practicing her cheers. My sympathy to your family for this tremendous loss of a tremendous gift. Jean Leonard

Jan's been our sister since she married our brother Tom forty years ago. I think she may be the strongest person I've ever known, well next to my Mom who was also amazing. Jan was so much a part of our lives, and for most of our lives...lovely, smart, funny, passionate, caring, loving, talented, giving, and determined...determined to fight and defeat the cancer that ravaged her body, but never her spirit, for so many years. A recent stroke dimmed her light, but we will cherish always the lovely sister we lost. We SO miss you❤...

I am so sorry about Jan. She helped me out many times with advice for Liberty High School, and substituted for me once when there was an emergency. I am forever grateful to her. She was a very courageous lady, who fought for life very hard. I will miss her.

Knowing Janice since the first grade from Our Lady of Mt. Virgin parochial school, I must say I admired her from the beginning. She was always so confident, so well prepared, so knowledgable.. She was my go to person all through grade school for any and everything I didn't understand . So patient, so helpful and supportive, so dependable, she was always a sure thing.. Rock solid in confidence and friendship I considered her a lifelong friend from very early in our childhood.
I will miss her caring and supportive friendship and rejoice in knowing that she is enjoying eternal peace and paradise for a life well lived and well loved by many.... RIP my dear childhood friend.❤

During these past 10 years, I also knew Jan @ work dealing with her many times on the phone or at times in person. She was always so helpful and organized and really took pride in her work! She was an amazing person and strong woman! My condolences to you as her family. I know she is in the heavens, pain free and in GOD's loving care. May you all find peace and comfort during this time. She will be sorely missed!

In the 12 years I knew her, Jan was always so willing to share her knowledge, expertise and time with me. Whenever I would call and say, "Hey, can I run this one by you?" she would help. Sometimes 'helping' was making me laugh out loud at the absurdity of the situation, and other times it was her taking the lead in a situation she knew was difficult, so as to save me the angst. She was a lovely, funny, kind and unique person and I SO enjoyed knowing her! I honor and admire the grace and strength she showed during her courageous fight with cancer. God bless you Jan.
