Jeffrey Gleed Obituary

Jeffrey Michael Gleed

1955 ~ 2014

A resident of Seattle for 27 years, Jeff was kind-hearted, with a wry sense of humor, who was most comfortable adventuring in the wide open spaces of the Pacific Northwest. He relished sharing his love of nature with his family and friends and especially enjoyed staking out new locales in the wilderness with easy access to a fine river stream.

Jeff died suddenly of cardiac arrest. He was a loving father, husband, son and son-in-law, brother and brother-in-law, uncle, surrogate uncle, friend, neighbor, workmate and coach, who was quick to lend a hand and share his expertise.

Jeff was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for local and home town favorites, but he was most fond of cheering on his daughter, Elena, whom he loved savagely. Jeff coached soccer in the Fall and softball in the Spring. He was a steadfast supporter on the sidelines for lacrosse matches and crew races and was a mentor on the slopes as Elena whizzed by. When asked about Elena, his face would light up and he would recount her latest endeavors. He was one proud Papa and a very good man!

By day, Jeff was an exceptional asset to the Panabo sales team of Vancouver, B.C. and at days end, he would often retire to the piano finessing the notes of Guaraldi, Joplin and other favorite jazz musicians.

A graduate of UC Berkeley, Jeff enjoyed his college days pitching for the Bears baseball team while acquiring a bachelor's degree in Economics.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, Shelley and Elena of Seattle, and his immediate family of San Jose, CA: his parents, George and Mary, his brothers and sister, Craig, Jim and Cindy and their respective spouses and children; Linda, Keith,Kyle, Kellie, Christy and Kaylene.

A memorial gathering celebrating Jeff's life will be held at the home of Bruce and Gretchen Jacobsen, 122 Madrona Place East in Seattle at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, October 11th.

I was Jeff's teammate at Cal and spent a summer in Canada with him on a baseball team there. I was saddened to hear of his passing at a recent Cal baseball reunion and will always have fond memories of that time.

Dear Shelley and family, I am saddened and so sorry for your loss. So many fond memories of Jeff throughout junior high and high school; most of them were of baseball or pulling off a hilarious prank making me laugh. Keeping you all in my prayers for comfort and peace.

Although Jeff and I went all the way through high school together, I best remember Jeff being in my classes at Kirk Elementary School. We also attended each other's birthday parties during elementary school. I'll never forget Jeff was one of the few people at John Muir Jr. High who could hit the softball over the tennis court fence for an automatic home run.

I am so sorry to learn about his passing. He was a great guy!
