Joyce Cleven Obituary

Joyce E. CLEVEN Joyce Elizabeth Cleven, known as "Betty" to friends and family, passed away quietly on Oct. 29 with her family at her side. Born Nov. 15, 1925 to George and Eva Roberts in Seattle, she attended Queen Anne High School where she loved leading the band as a Drum Majorette. Married to Leonard N. Cleven Feb. 22, 1947, they raised 4 children, Mark, Doug, Brad, and Janice, all of whom survive her. Leonard predeceased her in January, 2005. Len and Betty's years were filled with Saturday night dances at the old Parker's, Spanish Castle, Normana Hall, among others. Both were also avid bowlers. As the kids got older, they built and enjoyed 2 vacation homes on Camano Island, and spent as much time there as possible. Betty is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Salmon of Everett, 7 grandchildren, Shyla Cleven-Wilcynski, Tana Cleven, Theresa and Robbie Cleven, Kelly and Stefan Gage, and Samantha Hooper. She also lived to see 4 great-grandchildren, Preston (pictured with her) and Bennett Wilcynski, and Ava and Mya Gage. In accordance with their wishes, private ceremonies will be held on Camano Island and in Anacortes.
