I am a stranger. 3000 miles away on the other side of the country. I was heartbroken upon hearing in 2006.
Her voice still comforts me, when I hear it through a few discovery channel documentaries.
I originally watched them for the content. Now, I just listen for her storytelling and perfect tone.
Comforting
Thorough
Stories through sound that create a high definition picture in my mind.
That is the power of her craft. I appreciate it and hurt because of the loss.

To the family of Ms. Fleming:

I am a fan of her audiobooks she performed.

I am very sorry for your loss. I have experienced losses both anticipated and unexpected. When I was fifteen years old in my first year in high school, my mother died of melanoma at age 54 in December 2004; we were anticipating the loss. As with me, I am sure your loss is emotionally stressful for you and your family.

Your grief may ebb and flow. It has been said that each of us has this well deep inside of us that can be filled to the brim with grief. Every time we cry, we empty out some of the well. But the well fills again. The level of sorrow in your well may lessen as time passes, but it will never run dry. There will always be birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and those days when the well seems to fill to its brim again. Allow yourself time to remember and mourn. It is part of your healing. Grief is a continuing journey.

Kate kept me company on the bus, encouraged me at the gym, and helped make my house- and yard-work easier. I knew her only through her remarkable voice and the amazing characterizations she created in her audiobooks. I would check out books from the library simply because she'd recorded them.

I am truly grieved at her tragic passing, and wish hope and peace to Charlene and her families.

Dear Charlene,
We are so sorry for your loss. Though we never met Kate, the loving way you spoke of her every time we saw you showed us how much she was truly loved.

I'm so very sorry. Kate was a great person who I was privileged to know at W&M, and I'm a fan of her audio books. This is heartbreaking.

Dear Charlene and Fleming Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. This earthly world has lost a true "light". My prayers are with all of her loved ones.
I'm a friend from Alexandria, VA. My fondest memories of Kate are times spent together during Hello Dolly and Godspell productions at T.C. Williams. Those memories will be cherished.

Kate was such a talented, fun and joyous person. As a member of the "Washingtonians", I had the privilege of seeing her perform on many, but in retrospect, too few occasions. My prayers are with you, Charlene, and the entire family.

I can't imagine some of the characters Kate read in series being read from now on by someone else. She became the character. My deepest sympathy is with Charlene and the rest of the family. We will always have memories of her when we listen to a book she recorded.
