Kent Bishop Obituary

Kent R. Bishop

Kent R. Bishop passed away September 10, 2018 in Seattle, WA. He was born February 12, 1939 in Yakima, WA. A Queen City resident from 1960. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean Schwartz Bishop from Zillah. They met "on stage" at Yakima Jr. College. Also survived by brothers Larry and wife Sharon, as well as David and wife Cheryl and their respective families; the Marsh family including Peter and Martha, Eugene and Lisa and their offspring. Friends and family plan to gather for a service-reception by early November.

Kent's civic contributions include active participation in the evolution of the Old Seattle Theater, (BSN*), and by testing Seattle's racial-red-line by helping to establish the House of Entertainment. Academically honored by a Rockefeller Scholarship though Seattle Pacific College (SPC) with continued participation through the University of Washington which led to a variety of experience at Seattle Repertory Theater, and ACT, a graduate of SPC with an B.A. in Creative Arts.

Sports inspired, Kent, a producer of local Sea Fair TV coverage, was bonkers for hydroplane racing and Sea Fair memorabilia, and to his credit entertained countless fans as the Seattle Sonic's Wheedle.

He voiced and operated Norbert, a puppet character KOMO TV's Boomerang, as well the intrepid Mr. Alligator on KING TV's Let's Make a Wish, and bulked-out as Captain Baseline, a Baseline Print media image; add his indelible character Mr. Tomato -on onetime KTW Talk, and retired as Director of Telecommunication at Boeing.

In retirement, Kent bloomed his garden and operated a workshop: both tools to exercise his mighty green thumb and acknowledged tech-craft skills. Equally thrived at his so called "happy place", the family cabin, embracing camp fires and starry nights, at his beloved Liberty Mountain log cabin.

Kent is original: an attractive mind, blessed with a sense of humor, accepting to turns-of-fate; with earned his recognition as one of Seattle's characters. Kent's ashes rest at his happy place; shared on sentimental evenings, missed by those who love him.

I was a fellow cast member in the Old Seattle Theatre's 1963 production of "The Secret Treasure of Captain Chill". I was the child "star" Billy Good. Kent was a fellow pirate. All these years later I fondly remember my time with him and the cast. He infused our production - from rehearsals to final curtain - with positives, enthusiasm, always on the lookout for fun.
So sorry to hear of his early departure. And with hopes for his continued adventure. With gratitude for his helping make a great moment in my life. Guy Kramer
