Lane Dale Ruud

Born November 29, 1933 in Grand Forks, ND to Clarence and Minnie Ruud. Passed away peacefully at home December 10, 2016 after a short and heroic bout with brain cancer. Preceded in death by his wife, Sally Ruud (1989). Now survived by his wife, Sharon; his son Loren Ruud (wife Anne-Marie), daughter Kari Wilson (husband Darwin); Sharon's children, Alan Fenton (wife Nikky), Julie Kemp (husband Jim), and 12 grandchildren: Gunnar, Erik, Annika, Remington, James, Jennifer (Reed), Jeffrey, Justin (Jazmine), Jacqueline, Sara, Beau, and Brigitte.

Lane grew up in Spokane, WA. Served in the US Army in Germany. Earned a Degree in Education from WSU and a Masters from UW followed by a long and distinguished career as teacher and principal in Shoreline School District earning many awards including Washington State "Principal of the Year 1980."

Lane skied the European circuit and traveled the world with camera in hand, visiting 102 countries, every state, and every continent. He produced educational films and presented Travelogue lectures. Lane was always a teacher and traveler at heart but also loved to dance, beginning with the "Silver Spurs" and later teaching ballroom dancing on cruise ships.

He was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church, Edmonds Sons of Norway, VFW, Lake City Elks, Masons, and Nile Shriners. Lane was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor. His presence was of great inspiration and influence in the lives of all who knew him.

Memorial service Sunday, Feb 5, 1:30pm at the Nile Shrine Golf & Country Club, Mountlake Terrace. Donations can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
