Larry Jaeck Obituary

Larry Jaeck

May 5, 1950 ~ June 5, 2014

Larry Lyman Jaeck, 64, died unexpectedly of natural causes on June 5, 2014, while on a business trip to the Midwest. Larry was born on May 5, 1950, in Minneapolis, MN., to Dr. James and Evangeline Jaeck. At the age of 10, the family moved from LaCrosse, WI, to Sheboygan, where Larry graduated from North High School in 1968. Larry went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his B.A. in Anthropology and B.S. in Natural Resources. In 1976 Larry moved to the Seattle area to attend the University of Washington where he received his M.S. in Forestry.

Larry spent his entire career in the food service manufacturing industry. He began his career first with Miracle Maid Cookware, then the Lang Company, the Bill Miles Company, and in 1996 became a partner with Pro-Pacific Agents where he worked until his death. Larry was the consummate professional, earning the respect and admiration of dealers, end users, and designers alike. He built relationships with his clients based on old fashioned values like loyalty, honesty, and trust.

Larry had two abiding passions in life: food and birding. He was an excellent cook, and enjoyed preparing a number of cuisines. He loved going to restaurants and sharing meals with friends. On trips back to the Midwest, he always brought something to share-fish, fruit, or some other Pacific Northwest delicacy. Larry was both a passionate and patient birder. He could wait for half an hour for a single warbler to show itself in a tree. Birding, like food, was a social experience he enjoyed with close friends.

Larry was an active member of Gift of Grace Lutheran Church, the Seattle Chapter of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, as well as several food service industry associations.

Larry is survived by his sister Cindy (Mike) Barge of Rockford, IL, brother Dr. Gregory Jaeck (Gail Fulbeck) of Shingle Springs, CA, nieces Emily (Adam) Moret of Chicago, IL, and Katie (Chad) Michels of Denver, CO, and grandniece Vivienne Michels of Denver, CO. Larry is also survived by a number of close friends in Wisconsin and Seattle, whom he considered part of his family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James Jaeck and Evangeline Jaeck.

Larry's generosity, kind heart, and passion for life were an inspiration to all who knew him. Although he was taken from us too soon, his many humorous exploits will live on with us, and he will forever remain in our hearts.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Gift of Grace Lutheran Church in Seattle. A reception will follow. All are welcome to attend. Memorial donations in memory of Larry may be made to Conservation Northwest (www.conservationnw.org) or Gift of Grace Lutheran Church.

I am so sorry to have just heard of Larry's passing. A dear friend from elementary school on and teammate in our Boy Scout Troop 61, Larry was a natural leader, warm-hearted with a generous spirit. My heart goes out to Greg and Cindy and the family and many friends Larry made wherever he went.

Shocked to learn this. Condolences to family. I was a fraternity brother, classmate and anthropology major with Larry at UW. This is a blow and I am glad we reconnected 10 years ago.

To Larry's other friends and beloved family members... Irma and I enjoyed all the time we spent with Larry while living in Seattle. We all regret his number came up earlier than expected but we'll never regret continuing to be inspired by the man. Food and birding have become more focused passions of mine in my 50's. I feel closer to Larry knowing those passions inspired him as well. Peace to you during this time of grief and remembrance.

Larry was one of a kind and loved by many. His eccentricities and miss-adventures were legend and hilarious. His generosity and warmth were large and his good will was deep and sincere. He could laugh genuinely at himself and relish the affection of his many good friends who laughed with him. Nobody quite like Larry. We will miss him very much.

Give rest, O Lord, to the soul of Your departed servant, in a place of brightness, a place of repose, where all sickness, sorrow and sighing have fled away. Good-bye Larry. Glad I had one more chance to talk to you last year!

Larry & Robin were our sales reps a decade and more ago. Larry was a joy to be with. I particularly remember a feeding foray at Pike's Market where he introduced me to champagne grapes. And Mike and I will never forget the very special hand-picked and packed ripe peaches from Yakima that Larry sent us. He was a special guy and we are glad we shared some time with him.
