Lewis Cobb Obituary

Lewis Granger Cobb

Granger Cobb, age 55, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2015, at his home in Seattle after an inspiring and courageous battle with cancer. Granger was a pioneer of the senior living movement, starting Cobbco, Inc. in 1989 with his wife, Tina, and ultimately becoming president and CEO of Emeritus Senior Living. One of his final great achievements was his success in merging Emeritus into Brookdale Senior Living a little over a year ago. Granger had an infectious smile, tremendous spirit and unyielding optimism until his final day. He was proud to serve as a mentor and role model to many aspiring leaders, in his personal and professional life. In his own words, "I lived the most blessed life imaginable with a wonderfully loving family, incredible friends, and an exceptionally fulfilling career."

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tina; daughters Caitlin and Cassandra; father, Dr. Earl Lewis; mother, Letty; sisters Missy Hull, Catherine Potdevin, and Melanie Werdel; and brother Bryson.

My fond memories of Granger are unfortunately limited to chance encounters at our condominium grill. We both liked to grill a lot and I looked forward to running into him on these occasions. The first time I met him, he shared his business story. He struck me as very open, friendly, and genuine. This was the type of guy you'd like to have as a best friend. That thought was only reinforced as I listened to the men who eulogized him at the celebration of life. I only wish I had known him longer and better. The last time I saw him he was grilling, with his daughter, with a wheelchair nearby. We exchanged a hug. I will miss him.

I was heart broken to read that granger's dad,Dr. Lewis passed. but shocked even more to read about Granger. I had the wonderful opportunity to coach granger in water polo at Tokay High. What an absolute competitor and fantastic attitude. I picked him to be our team captain and he really was an inspiration to the whole team. I'm so sorry that he has been taken way too early. My love and thoughts go out to the whole family. God bless.Rob Wooton

My am grateful to of met Granger, Tina and his girls who he was so proud of. We spent many conversations talking about his family, motorcycle rides, golf at pro/am, bike rides with Tina on the beach, a weekend to Hawaii, and the 10K run he did just 2 years ago, and the trip to Italy and France last March
Granger was an insightful, kind, brave, funny man. I feel my life will forever enriched by knowing him these last few years. I am glad I got to call you friend.

So sorry to hear of Granger passing, I worked for Emeritus and had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a great business man. I left Emeritus and went to work for Brookdale three years ago and then the two merged. We often joked that Granger couldn't live without me that is why the two companies mergered. My thoughts go out to the family.

My heart aches at the passing of Granger. We met in 6th grade and we're best pals through high school. Every 12 year old should have a best friend like Granger was to me. I know how deeply he loved Tina and his girls. You and all the Cobbs are in my thoughts. RIP old friend.

My heart is broken with the passing of Granger. The family was a big part of me growing up in Morada and beyond. Tina, I hope you get strength during this time and continue that strength in the future. Lew and Lettie, I can not imagine what you are going through. I loved Granger like a brother. He touched all of our lives in a way that will be treasured always. Missy, Cathy, Bryson, and Melanie....I know what it's like losing a brother. I am so very sorry for you all. But what a great big brother you had. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. All my love and a Hui Ho, Granger....
