Marian Halpin Obituary

Marian Lorraine Halpin

February 26, 1919-December 11, 2015

Marian Lorraine Halpin passed away on December 11, 2015 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Halpin. They had been married 39 years at the time of his death in June 1981. She was born in Coleraine, Minnesota. She had two brothers, Bob Barwise and Bruce Barwise, and one sister Helen Schwarz, who all preceded her in death.

Marian's family, like many others, moved west from Minnesota during the depression, settling in Republic, Washington. She graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane and worked for the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) in Lewiston, Idaho, where she met Wayne. He started at Boeing in November 1941 in the old Red Barn (now at the Museum of Flight) and they were married and moved to Seattle in June 1942.

She is survived by two sons, David (Marianne) in Hadlyme, Connecticut, and Dennis (Pat) in Shoreline. She has four grandchildren, Ko Maruyama (Kate) in Glendale, California, Gen Maruyama (Kendra) in Denver, Colorado, Shawn Halpin (Aleanna) in Everett, and Maggie Halpin Saad (Dimitri) in Brooklyn, New York. Marian has six great-grandchildren Meghan, Jack, Reed, Tessa, Tyler, and Zachary, expecting a great granddaughter in May. She was also called Mom, Gram and friend by innumerable others.

Marian's family moved to a house in West Seattle in 1948. She took pride in her work with community organizations, in her jobs with industry serving heavy construction throughout the west and Alaska and in keeping a happy home. She created a house and yard that was a joy to many. She painted the house, inside and out, until she was in her 80s and helped put a new roof on Dennis' garage when she was 85. At the age of 92, she moved to Aegis of Shoreline where she made many friends and found one of her golfing partners living two doors down the hall.

There will be a Memorial Mass at 9:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 18033 15th Place NE, Shoreline, WA 98155 followed by a small reception. Please bring stories, and maybe a tall tale, to share.

Marian was one of the "older" ladies I had the pleasure of being part of their Boweling Team in the 1980's. We never won any awards but sure had a lot of fun.
