Michael Dondanville Obituary

Michael Joseph Dondanville

Our beloved Michael Joseph Dondanville, 47, left us suddenly and unexpectedly on January 11th, 2013.

Born in West Seattle in 1965, Michael was the fourth of seven children born to Raymond Lowell and Jeanne Marie (Spadoni) Dondanville. Together with his family, Michael moved to Bellevue in 1967 where he would graduate from Sammamish High School in 1984. From there he attended Washington State University, where he met Bridget Killoran, whom he married. They had one son, his only child, Jack, in 1988.

Michael was an artist in every sense of the word. An extremely talented oil painter, Michael created hundreds of works of art, most of which he made not for profit or recognition but for the love of the craft, including several murals for daycares in the Eastside area. He was also an accomplished musician, able to play several instruments such as the trumpet, guitar, and his beloved ukulele. Michael was an extraordinarily intelligent man, great writer, skilled carpenter, mechanic, avid reader and deep thinker with a vast array of interests including literature, philosophy, theology, mythology, folklore, history, science and mathematics.

Words cannot begin to do justice to his remarkable personality. Loved by all who met him, especially women, children and pets, Michael was charming, handsome and funny as hell, a loving father with a good heart. He was a wonderful manager to all of his employees at local business Daly's Home Decorating, where his close relationships with customers, versatile skill set, and impeccable eye for color made him excel at his job like no other.

Truly the world never saw anyone quite like Mike, nor will it ever again. He was unique, a true individual, and he will always live on in our hearts.

Michael was preceded in death by sister Deirdre Anne; survived by loving son Jack; parents Raymond and Jeanne; siblings Patrick, Maureen Norris (Mark), Kathleen Lince (Gregg), Brian (Kitty) and Kevin (Tirzah); nephews Sam and Jacob Lince, Joe, Nick and Matt Dondanville; niece Belle Marie Norris; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; ex-wife Bridget; and his lovely and caring girlfriend Susan.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 18th at 11:30 am at St. Louise Parish in Bellevue, WA. Friends are invited to view photos, get directions, and share memories in the family's online guestbook at WWW.FLINTOFTS.COM. Flintoft's Funeral Home and Crematory (425) 392-6444.

There are no words that can do justice to how my siblings, parents and I feel about Mikey. Our loss is devastating and has changed our family forever. We are still in a fog from his sudden and unwanted departure. Thanks to all of you for your love and support.

It was a blessing and honor to be Mike's friend and co-worker for the past 13 years. I cannot describe how much he inspired and amazed me. His service was a touching reminder that he was always genuine, authentic, and fearlessly his own person. I am thankful he was part of such a wonderful family who raised him to be the kind, creative, leader he was. He will be missed every day.

Words can't express how I feel. Mike was the person who would know what to say or do. He would probably say “Don't be sorry. Everything is beautiful.”
