Morton A. Stelling

Morton A. Stelling was born April 22, 1931 in Omaha, NE, and died on July 2, 2015 in Mukilteo, WA. He is survived by his partner Marjorie Noel French, and by his six children Paul, Sara (Bob) Maliva, David, Suzanne, Karen and Margriet and by five grandchildren.

Morton attended Omaha South High School (Hall of Fame 2001) and in 1949 went to Washington University in St. Louis on scholarship. He left to become a Marine Corps jet fighter pilot in Korea. He completed his degree at Iowa State, followed by a Fellowship at Yale University. He worked for GM Overseas in Peru, Japan and Thailand, and retired in 1987.

Morton was active in NE's conservation movement through work with the Wachiska Audubon Society, the Lincoln/Lancaster County (NE) Ecological Advisory Committee, the NE Sustainable Agriculture Society and was president of the NE Audubon Council. In 2000, he moved to Seattle to be with Marjorie, a classmate at Washington University.

Mort sang with the Cantata Academy of Detroit, Abendmusik Chorus of Lincoln, the Omaha Symphonic Choir, and the Seattle Symphony Chorale.

Mort requested no memorial service and to have his ashes scattered over his beloved prairie.
