Ralph Shape Obituary

Ralph M. Shape

Ralph Moritz Shape was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936 in Seattle, Washington to parents John and Esther Shape. He passed away Sunday, June 21st, 2015. Graduated from Franklin High School and the University of Washington. He worked at Boeing Texas and flight school in the US Air Force. Following eight years of military service, he continued his love of flying with Pan American, flying all over the world for 25 years. That included 7 years in Berlin, Germany witnessing the fall of the wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union. With the demise of Pan Am he continued his flying, now, with Delta Airlines. They built their home at Angle Lake where they could see airplanes take off and land and could walk to the airport. Following retirement Ralph ran for SeaTac City Council and served in that capacity for eight years which included two as Mayor. Travel stayed on the agenda as well as some winter time spent in Arizona. Ralph is survived by his wife of 56 years Judie; son Martin of Puyallup, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Michael Spencer, two terrific grandchildren, Stefany and David; brother and sister-in-law John and Donna Shape; sister Ann Morrison; and his best friend KuKu. Interment will be at Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Museum of Flight or to your favorite charity.

Dear Judi,

I finally looked you up on Google and was surprised to hear about Ralph. We had such fun in Delaware in the good old days. We loved being your neighbors there.
Please know how sorry I am.

I am saddened to hear this news. I have been a City Employee for many years and in all those years Mr. Shape was one of the kindest people I had the pleasure of coming into contact with. Mr. Shape always made a point of knowing our names and shaking our hands. What a kind man he was. He will be sadly missed through out the City for sure and by anyone who's life he had touched ...my condolences and prayers go out to Judie and her family.

Judi, Iam so sorry to hear about Ralph's passing and your loss. I have known you and Ralph since the Late 80's and the hunts you started going to in Idaho. We have enjoyed the many times with CTC board meetings and other activities at your home. I worked with Ralph on the 25 th Silver Shoot and enjoyed the help he gave when I ran the previous years hunts. the many Club camping trips in the Mountains, Idaho, [ NWTHC hunt which Ralph always went into the night hunt. Not sure what he liked about that hunt?} The Pacific Beach outings and the games and activities. He was always very much involved in the activities and I always enjoyed seeing you two and Coo Coo at the Labor Day camping outting. This years activities will be dedicated tohis memory. Thanks for all the great memories, and great hospitality you always showed.

To Judie and Family I extend my sympathy on your loss. When I lived in SeaTac, Ralph always greeted me with friendliness on my daily walks. In addition he was a patient listener and advocate as Mayor of SeaTac. He had an unsurpassed dignity in his position of Mayor. I am sorry for your loss.
