Richard A. Kobernik

Richard A. KOBERNIK July 15, 1919 ~ February 3, 2011 Richard was born in Yakima, Washington and passed on in Surprise, AZ. He graduated from Selah High School in 1938. Richard served in the Air Force during WWII and achieved the Rank of Technical Sergeant and flew most of his missions in the European theater with the 456th B-24 Bombardment Group. After the war he drove log trucks in Oregon before moving on to jobs in the heating service field for 11 years. In 1958 he was hired by The Boeing Co. and spent most of his time there as an electronic technician until his retirement in 1984. Richard's passions were fishing and working with wood, and with his crowning achievement being all the work he did on the Whidbey Island cabin and the Sequim home. Richard is survived by his sister Ella Miner; his wife of over 50 years, Dorothy Kobernik; his children Susan and Dean; his six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his nephews Kenneth, Eugene, Robert and William; and his niece Susan. A few of the notes in his WWII scrapbook written by his fellow flyers: "A damn good engineer but a better buddy", "Keep them flying", Happy Landings", A damn good gunner" and last but not least, "to a swell buddy the best of luck in the world and health and happiness".
