Richard McCormick Obituary

Richard "Dick" Skeen McCormick

Richard "Dick" Skeen McCormick of Seattle, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the age of 71, from complications of cancer treatment.

Dick was born in Oakland, California, the second of four children of the late Leroy "Mac" and Dorothy McCormick. He attended Highland Middle School and Sammamish High School in Bellevue. He spent one cold year at Central Washington, before attending the University of Washington, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance.

His early career in investments was with Bank of California, Rainier Bank, and Kennedy and Associates, all in Seattle.

In 1987, Dick started his own firm, McCormick Capital Management, which he ran until retiring in 2012. Dick married the love of his life, Taffy Flanigan, 49 years ago and raised their two sons on Capitol Hill. Together they enjoyed, movies, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and working on projects at their Cle Elum cabin. Five years ago, they moved to Belltown where they loved walking through the Olympic Sculpture Park and Seattle Center.

Dick was a talented investor, a lover of inventions, a constant rooter for the underdog (Go, Super CherriesI), a soccer fan, a frustrated Mariner fan, a former independent candidate for U.S. President and most recently a movie screen writer. People quickly learned to avoid the subject of politics with Dick.

Dick was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, and a wonderful grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Taffy; his sons, Dickie and John-Stephen; his brother, Steve; his sister, Peggy; his daughters in law, Jill, Sara, and Jackie; and his five grandchildren, Lucas, Duncan, Heather, Brenna, and Bradan. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy.

He will always be remembered for being a strong, inspiring, dependable, honest, beautiful, and bigger than life member of the family. He will be missed by all but will stay forever in our hearts.

A celebration of his life will be held

on Monday, September 11th, 2017 at the Olympic Sculpture Park -

Paccar Pavillion 2901 Western Avenue from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

I just learned today about Dick's passing. Makes me very sad. I had the pleasure of meeting Dick and Taffy in the early 1990s while visiting Seattle. I worked for a mutal fund transfer agency back then called Fund/Plan Services. Elite Funds was one of our clients that I managed on the backend and Dick was Elite's president. He and Taffy were, by far, my favorite clients.

I am very saddened to learn that Dick has died.

My heart goes out to Taffy, their sons, extended family and everyone who knew and loved this wonderful man.

Dear Taffy,
We are so sad about Dick's passing. I'm unable to attend tonight, hoping Joseph can represent the HHH family. I don't know how to get hold of you: would love to be in touch.
All our love to you and your family
