Richard Sacksteder Obituary

Richard Sacksteder

Richard Sacksteder, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed peacefully at home on April 10, surrounded by loved ones. Richard lived his 92 years to the fullest with joy, enthusiasm and humor. Born in Dayton, Ohio, eldest sibling to sisters, Jacqueline, Lois and Mary, he graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1940, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and earned a Masters in Education at UW. Richard was a dedicated career educator with the Shoreline School District and had numerous hobbies and associations, including the Seattle Classical Guitar Society. He and beautiful wife Barbara loved to dance and were avid supporters of Skandia Folkdance Society. After retirement, they traveled extensively. Richard had a genuine curiosity about life and others, and always asking, "So what are you doing for fun these days?" He would have smiled at the fortune cookie opened in his honor on April 10, which said "Tomorrow is a good day to try something new." He is survived by wife Barbara, son Lane Sacksteder, daughters Randi Olson (Neal), Liv Greene, Colette Sacksteder (Michael), and Annette Sacksteder (Sanoe), and 14 grandchildren. Daughter Denise Sacksteder preceded him in death. A fuller bio and online guestbook will be posted on www.funerals.coop. In his memory, live life fully and with joy, learn, travel, and do many kindnesses for others.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Richard Sacksteder. I had the opportunity only once to meet him when visting Seattle. He was a kind and astute man. Knowing Richard was very meaningful to me partly due to our shared interests in travel to the Scandinavia, Belgium and France, art, our shared experience in teaching E.S.L., education and love for Chinese food. Richard and his family are in my prayers. Rick Sacksteder of Covington KY, counselor at Mount St Joseph University

Knowing Dick as both a friend and a "boss" has made a big impact on my life. He shared so much of his interests and talents with others and my life was enhanced by having known him and his family.-Sylvia Haven

Dear Barbara and family,

Our thoughts are with you. Betty Smith and I happened to have lunch today and we each brought each other Dick's obituary. We shared some memories of Aqua-dive days. Take care. Joanne Hjort

Yes! Dick is a cherished friend of many years and experiences. Both He and Barb have always opened their loving arms to hold me in their lives. 'Live life fully!" Dick's example has been taught well and I will always remember him. Thank you for sharing him with us. Love, Nola
