Ruth Gustafson Henshaw

1938 ~ 2017

Ruth passed away peacefully March 28, 2017 with family by her side. She will be greatly missed by so many.

Ruth was born February 27, 1938 to Ernest and Alice Gustafson of Frewsburg, NY. She attended Frewsburg Central School and Jamestown Community College. She married Frank E. Henshaw on July 3, 1959 and moved to Arizona. A year and half later they moved and settled in Washington State.

Ruth attended Highline Community College and received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Valley Medical Center in Renton for most of her career. After that she went to work at Quincy Valley Medical Center until she retired in 2013.

Ruth was generous, kind, and had many friends in many places. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, wry sense of humor, and beautiful smile. She enjoyed garage sale shopping, reading, solving crossword puzzles, traveling, camping, and cooking new recipes. She loved to try new things and never stopped learning.

Ruth is survived by her family in Washington state. Children; Anne Henshaw, Dara (Kevin) Foley, Michael Henshaw, and Gwyn (Darrell) Ikola. Grandchildren; David Rennick, Katie Garfield, Michael Garfield, Kyle Ikola, Michael Henshaw, Jr. and Morgan Henshaw. She is survived by her sisters Eleanor Johnson and Florence (Bill) Cass of Frewsburg, NY, D. Jean Emond of Hampton, VA, and sister in law Barbara Gustafson of Wake Forest, NC, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is survived by Chamois her faithful dog. I worked with Ruth at Valley General Hospital in Renton, WA. I was a security gueard. I found her to be one of the most humorous individuals I've known. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, although it's been a while. One day we may meet again.

Oh my goodness. What a loss of one funny human being. How many dogs named Sandy did she have? I'm so sorry to learn we've lost her. My sincere condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.

Just learned of Ruth's passing this evening. Ruth and I met in kindergarten in Frewsburg, and we went all through school together, as did a few of our classmates.

The last time the four of us (Janet, Carol Ruth and I) were together was in Las Vegas in, I think, 1999, for a class reunion, the classes being comprised of several graduating classes in the 1950s. Good times, and great memories.

Ruth, you will be missed.
