Ruth Ann Hiserman
Ruth Ann Brothers Hiserman was born in Pocatello, ID, on December 4, 1920, to Dr. William Wesley and Mildred Alice Brothers. She passed away peacefully on January 4, 2017, in Shoreline, WA. She enjoyed her elementary and high school years in Pocatello as well as spending her summers at the family cabin in Big Springs, ID. Ruth Ann attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, where she met and married her college sweetheart Stanley J. Hiserman in May of 1941.
Ruth Ann excelled at art, cooking, gardening and all things creative. She served as President of the Faculty Wives Club of the University of Washington in 1965 and various boards and committees as well as the Camp Fire Girls and the Faculty Wives Garden Club. Ruth Ann was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all Husky sports and Seattle professional teams. In later years, she was an artist with her knitting needles, creating gorgeous sweaters. When her eyes failed her, she turned her quick wit and creative mind to poetry and storytelling. Ruth Ann continued to go to her cabin in Idaho throughout her life up until it was no longer possible for her to stay there on her own.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Alice, her brother, Lt. Col. William W. Brothers, and former husband, Stan. She is survived by her three children, Jane Collins (Tom), Stan Hiserman (Mary Cairns) and Sally Hiserman (Richard Truax); grandchildren, Charlie Collins (Ute), Laura Collins, Zoe Hiserman Rooney (John), Wes Hiserman (Desiree Gonzalez) and Emilia Truax, as well as two great grandsons (Johnny and Pete Rooney).
The family wishes to express our utmost gratitude to the caregivers of Prosperous Care Services Adult Family Home for their loving care of our mother over the past few years. A private family celebration of life will be held this summer at the cabin at Big Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy (
