I met Sam while at Boeing (70's) but didn't work with him until mid 80's while in shipyards in Portland. His engineering work experience and work ethic was amazing when it came to any piping system. Even after he left the Navy office in Seattle and was working in Portland for the Army I could call for engineering help and he'd always have good suggestions.
He always spoke very positive about his family. My thoughts after Sam's passing are very similar to your aunt Celia's (15 June) but she put her feelings into words much better than I could.
God be with you Marisa and your family.

I worked with Sam for many yrs at SUPSHIP Seattle. We shared a fondness for fast horses (or slow ones it seemed frequently). After moving over to NOAA Sam frequently stopped by the office with his son and we shared stories of our friends. When Sam visited all work stopped in the office while several of us enjoyed his friendship. He was a good engineer but sometimes I think his true calling was that of an artist. He was amazing with his pen. He will be missed by all who knew him and we were fortunate to have shared a part of his life. He will never be forgotten!
Condolences to his family!
