Shirley and I worked together at The Bush School Library for ten years. Her love for sharing the joy of books with children was an inspiration for me to continue library work. She loved her family, pets, the arts, travel, cooking, and, of course, reading. She was a life-long learner. My condolences to the Loper family.

I truly enjoyed our friendship that began at the Seattle Art Museum. There certainly were some interesting times there! My move to California meant keeping touch via cards and phone. My most memorable time with Shirley was a great trip to Spain! I believe both of us had a wonderful time!
So long, Shirley......
Love,
Joan

Shirley: Sorry that our journeys crossed so late in our lives -- with both of us struggling to cope. I saw what a fine sensibility you had towards Mae (who arranged our meetings), toward your lovely and caring niece (who awed me for how much she cared for you), toward knowledge, toward books. I am so sorry I was not more capable by then but I treasure our brief shared time-lines. Love, Brenda Dervin

OUR CONDOLENCES TO THE ENTIRE LOPER AND MCLURGE FAMILY. WE WILL MISS HER, AND HER SMILES FOR ALL. YUCCA AND I FEEL THE LOSS, AND EXTEND OUR LOVE. SO HAPPY SHE VISITED ALL THE BEAUTIFUL PLACES EXPLAINED IN SHIRLEYS OBITUARY. I HAD NO IDEA THAT HER OLDEST SON WAS BORN IN ENGLAND. LOVE TO MATT AND BILL, AND THEIR WIVES, AND CHILDREN.

SJ was the least lazy person I ever met. She loved life, and was a tactful fighter for justice and for all. She was a mother who adored her family and husband Bob, and the romance of words. I miss her already and love her always, but the memories are great. - Eve Roberts
