Stephen Grega Obituary
Stephen Joseph GREGA Stephen was born March 28, 1920 in Dodson, Maryland, and died November 28, 2003. Dr. Grega practiced medicine in the Seattle and Redmond areas from 1944 until his retirement in 1995. He is survived by his wife Dorothy K. Hansman Grega, whom he married in 1973 and currently resides in Mercer Island, WA. He is survived by his brother and sister, Alex Grega of Corbin, Kentucky, and Mary Billy of Chicago, Illinois. He fathered nine children, Kathleen Digges of McLean, VA., Michele Grega of Las Vegas, NV., Steven Grega of Chehalis, WA., David Grega of Bothell, WA., Vincent Grega of Gig Harbor, WA., Janice Jennings of Auburn, WA., Kevin Grega of Los Angeles, CA., and J. Anthony Grega of Seattle. His son, Philip Grega of Seattle, WA. was recently deceased. Dr. Grega has nine grandchildren all of the Seattle area, and is also survived by numerous relatives in Maryland, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana and Florida. Stephen was raised in Kentucky where he had an active Catholic upbringing. In 1934, he graduated from Lynch High School and then completed his Pre-Med undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky. In 1943, Dr. Stephen Grega graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine, in Chicago, Illinois. He came to Seattle in 1944 to serve his residency at the Poly/Clinic and at Veterans Hospital. From 1953-1955 he served in the United States Army as Captain in the Medical Corps in London England and Frankfurt Germany. Throughout his 54 years of practice Dr. Grega was known as a skilled surgeon and a dedicated as well as caring medical practitioner. He was on the staffs of Providence, Virginia Mason and Cabrini Hospitals. Stephen had many interests in life including photography, golf and fishing but none so much as travel. His ventures took him to Russia, Greece, Italy, Africa and the Holy Lands. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 11 a.m. at St. Monica's Catholic Church.
