Thomas Swift Obituary

Thomas G. SWIFT Tom, age 69, died at home in Redmond on September 11, surrounded by the love and care of his four children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 27 years, Joy. Besides being dearly loved as a husband, father, grandfather and brother, Tom was known for his wit, humor, and zest for living. He was a devoted Catholic, respected professional, spirited conversationalist, avid wine enthusiast, inventive cook and voracious reader. He served 39 years for the National Weather Service, including 19 years as Deputy Meteorologist in Charge of the Seattle Weather Service Office. After retirement in 1999, he thoroughly enjoyed a second career at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery. Born in Rochester, MN, and raised in Des Moines, IA, he earned his BS in meteorology from San Jose State University and served in the USMC. He is survived by four children: Patrick (Patricia) of Vista, CA; Regina (Jon) Kemp of Santa Monica, CA; Robert (Regina) of Mission Viejo, CA; Mary of Seattle and three grandchildren: Matthew, Daniel and Madeline. He is also survived by three sisters: Patty (Mike) Murrane, and Kathie Swift, Des Moines, IA; Mary (Ted) Neswold, Naperville, IL; and a brother, Jim Swift, Grand Junction, CO. The family requests that memorials be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Services will be held Friday (Sept. 15) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Judes Catholic Church in Redmond, with burial at Cedar Lawns Memorial Park.

I worked with Tom at the Chateau, and what a treat it was to have him there. Always such a pleasure to be with, whether there or at his house for our wine tastings, I am saddened to hear of his passing, but I also know he's free of pain. My thoughts are with the family, and with all who were blessed to know him.

To all the Swift Family:

Thomas was a colleague at Chateau Ste. Michelle for many years and I will miss him so much. He was a special friend in my life and his smile, hugs, and gentle presence meant so much to me. He was generous with his knowledge of wine, his humor, and his life lessons... You, his family, were so wonderful in his last months and I know he was very appreciative. I hope that his Chateau family also provided him with support in his long ordeal as we all loved him.

We were privileged to have him as part of our "Chateau Family"

Patrick, Regina Robert, and Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. I will never forget your father. He has been a client and friend for twenty years. He was a very special man and I feel so very privlaged to have had him in my life. There are so few people in life that are as great as Tom Swift. I will always remember him with fondness. Thankyou for sharing him with me. He is an irreplacable gift. Jeanne Virgin "The Barber Shop"
