Vivian Sandaas Obituary

Vivian May Sandaas

Vivian May Sandaas passed away peacefully on May 27, 2016 at the Gene and Irene Wockner Hospice Center. Medical issues beginning early in 2016 resulted in complications that couldn't be overcome, despite the best efforts of her medical team. She was 83 years old.

Born in Seattle on May 19, 1933, she was raised in Ballard where she attended school through Junior High. Her family then relocated to Yarrow Point and she went on to attend Bellevue High School. Upon graduation she enrolled in the University of Washington where she received her Bachelor's degree with a major in music. Following that she embarked on a teaching career, first in Seattle and then in Bellevue at the primary level. In addition to her musical talent, she was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She was active in Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary organization for women educators, and received their highest award for service. Throughout her life she remained connected to her local roots; in Ballard through her involvement with the Nordic Heritage Museum, and in Bellevue through her volunteer efforts with the Eastside Heritage Museum. Vivian loved to travel, visiting Japan, Iceland, and making several trips to Norway to see her extended family. She was a longtime member of the Seattle First Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years.

Vivian is survived by her brother Richard, niece Kirstin Sandaas, nephew Leif Sandaas, great niece Jensen Sandaas, and great nephew Beckett Sandaas. Remembrances in her name can be made to Seattle First Baptist Church or the Nordic Heritage Museum.

A memorial service will be held in the Sanctuary at Seattle First Baptist Church on July 3 at 1 PM.
