Webster Augustine Obituary

Webster "Bo" Augustine, Jr.

Bo passed away peacefully on February 6, 2015. He was born on November 10, 1930 in New York City, NY and lived most of his life in Seattle.

After moving to Seattle as a young boy, Bo attended McGilvra School and graduated from Garfield High School in 1948. He attended the University of Washington, earning two engineering degrees and his MBA. He was a member of and served as the President at the Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) fraternity, served in the Air Force ROTC and later in Dover, Delaware AFB as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Bo married his college sweetheart and homecoming queen Jean Ross in 1954. They had a two-year honeymoon in New Castle, Delaware while Bo served in the Air Force and Jean began her lifelong career in education. They had three sons and together they were wonderful, supportive and loving parents - particularly involved with their severely developmentally disabled son, Garrett.

Bo was an avid and passionate sailor. He was a deckhand on the Virginia V and the first junior member of the Corinthian Yacht Club. As a young boy he learned to sail on Lake Washington and later raced six meters as well as larger boats in Puget Sound and was a regular in the Swiftsure Race in Canada. Family vacations always involved sailing in the San Juan Islands and Desolation Sound. The pinnacle of his sailing "career" was taking delivery in France of Nebo, a beautiful 52' sailboat. He spent several summers sailing in the Mediterranean, welcoming family and friends from Seattle to join him on his adventures. He was a member of the Seattle Yacht Club and a lifelong member of the Seattle Tennis Club where he enjoyed playing tennis.

After a 35 year career with Boeing, Bo was active in his retirement. His Seattle roots ran deep as a Washington Pioneer descendant and he was very involved in the McGilvra Historical Society. He spent his time taking geology classes at the UW, investigating his family genealogy roots, playing the piano, spending time with his grandkids and using the APL programming language on his Mac. His loving wife Jean passed away during his retirement in 1998.

Bo married Virginia Webster in 2002 and they lived in Seattle, eventually moving to La Jolla, California in 2009. Following Virginia's death in 2013, Bo returned to Seattle.

Bo is survived by two of his sons, Webster (Carol) Augustine III of Menlo Park, CA and Bradford Gordon (Linda) Augustine of Seattle; his sister Deirdre Plunkett of Seattle; four grandchildren: Lauren, Michael, Henry and Andrea; and eight nieces and nephews. Bo was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his second wife Virginia, and his son Garrett.

Bo will be remembered as a loving husband, supportive father and devoted grandpa, as an avid sailor and for his sense of humor and intellect.

A Memorial Service will be held at Epiphany Church on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 4:00pm. Remembrances can be made to The Steamer Virginia V Foundation (www.virginiav.org/donate) or The Alzheimer's Association of Western Washington.
